Pediatric OR Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Job - Indianapolis, Indiana


Job Summary

  • Position: Pediatric OR Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Location: Indianapolis, Indiana
  • Employment Type: Travel/Contract
  • Shift: Night shift, Wednesday to Friday, 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each)
  • Contract Length: 12 weeks

Unit & Patient Population

  • Level I trauma center with specialties including ENT, Urology, Plastics, General Surgery, Orthopedic, Trauma, and Neurosurgery
  • Surgical cases include General, Urology, Endo/Laparoscopic, Plastics, ENT
  • Patient population: Neonates, infants, toddlers, children, adolescents, and some adults
  • Complex procedures include ECMO, burn procedures, tumor resections, and trauma surgeries
  • Equipment used: Stealth, DaVinci, ROSA

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Indiana
  • Minimum 2 years of Pediatrics OR (Operating Room) experience, with at least some experience within the last year
  • One completed travel assignment
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Certifications (AHA accepted unless otherwise noted)

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) – required
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – may be required depending on cost center
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) – may be required depending on cost center
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) – may be required depending on cost center
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) – may be required depending on cost center
  • Other certifications such as Chemotherapy, EFM, NIH Stroke Certification may be required based on assignment

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Valid Driver’s License or Passport (clear copy)
  • Background check within 90 days of start, including 7-year work/living history, education verification, and various federal/state checks
  • Education verification and official transcript/diploma required
  • State license verification within 30 days of start
  • Physical exam within 12 months of start
  • Fit mask test within 12 months of start (specific respirators approved)
  • Immunizations and titers required:
    • Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; no declinations accepted
    • Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; no declinations accepted
    • Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination required
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap preferred but not required
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year of start
  • Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months of start
  • Flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required for flu season (9/30 - 3/31)
  • Color blind exam (Ishihara or equivalent) with 100% minimum score
  • Medication test/pharmacology competency exam required
  • Unit competency exam required
  • Skills checklist within 12 months of start and annually thereafter
  • Minimum 2 professional references from recent employment, verified within 2 years

Additional Notes

  • IU Health will not allow Indiana RNs to start new contracts after 9/9/2024 except for Periop/OR, Allied, and Ambulatory RN travelers who are exempt from the 11/30/2024 cutoff
  • Local Indiana residents may be offered reduced pay rates (not included here)
  • Facility-specific orientation and compliance forms must be completed as a priority prior to start
  • Mandatory completion of any required facility-specific modules or training prior to orientation
  • On-site fit testing available only as a last resort and with prior approval

This position is ideal for experienced pediatric OR RNs with trauma and neuro experience who have prior travel contract experience and hold an active Indiana RN license.
