Job Opportunity: Labor and Delivery Nurse

Location: Chesapeake, Virginia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Provide care in a 15-bed OB Emergency Department/Antepartum unit caring for pregnancies greater than 20 weeks.
  • Unit includes 11 labor beds, 2 operating rooms, and a 2-bed PACU.
  • Schedule options: 3x12 or 4x12 hour shifts (overtime after 48 hours).
  • Work every other week (EOW), float, and holidays required within contract.
  • Must be proficient in EPIC electronic health record system.
  • Must comply with a radius rule: permanent address must be at least 50 miles from the facility.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Virginia.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing.
  • Minimum 2 years of Labor and Delivery nursing experience, with experience within the last year.
  • Certifications:
    • ACLS issued by the American Heart Association
    • AWHONN (Association of Women's Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses)
    • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
  • Experience with Epic electronic health record system.

Additional Requirements

  • Background checks including 7-year criminal history, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG.
  • Proof of diploma or transcript required.
  • Fingerprinting required (Virginia VSP National Criminal Background Check) with results prior to start.
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, updated annually.
  • Immunizations and titers required within 10 years or as specified:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years, no exemptions accepted)
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year.
  • Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months.
  • Seasonal flu vaccination required or approved exemption.
  • COVID vaccine preferred but not required.
  • Pass/fail EKG/medication competency testing required.
  • Unit-specific skills checklist and competency exams required.
  • Photo for badge required before start.
  • References: Proof of 2 references required.
  • Employment application and performance evaluation (if applicable).

Notes

  • Prior travel experience is not explicitly required.
  • Candidates must be willing to work every other week, float, and holidays.
  • Overtime is available after 48 hours.
  • Radius rule strictly enforced; candidates living within 50 miles of the facility will not be considered.
