Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - PCU

Location: Lexington, Kentucky
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 14 weeks


Job Description

  • Work on a progressive/acute care unit (PCU).
  • Must have 2 years of medical-surgical telemetry nursing experience.
  • Oncology experience preferred.
  • Chemotherapy certification preferred but not required.
  • Must have availability to work some summer holidays.
  • Local travelers within 100 miles are not accepted.

Required Certifications

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only, RQI accepted.
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only, RQI accepted.
  • Other certifications may be required depending on unit specifics (e.g., PALS, NRP, CHEMO, TNCC, EFM).
  • Pass/Fail EKG/Medication exam required for certain units including PCU/Stepdown.
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) Blue Card may be required.
  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam.
  • Unit-specific competency exams and skills checklists must be completed and current.
  • State RN license verification required within 30 days of start.
  • NURSYS verification required within 30 days of start.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Kentucky.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in Progressive Care Unit (PCU) nursing, with at least some experience within the last year.
  • Minimum 2 years of medical-surgical telemetry (Med-Surg Tele) nursing experience.
  • Current ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
  • Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
  • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) certification.
  • Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) certification.
  • Acknowledgement and successful completion of Pass/Fail testing, including EKG and Medication exams.
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification or competency.

Background and Health Requirements

  • Background checks including county criminal, national criminal, sex offender, and education verification required.
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by MD, NP, or PA.
  • Fit mask test within 1 year, updated annually.
  • Immunizations and health documents required and must be current:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray (annual renewal)
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella immunity or vaccination
    • Hepatitis B immunity or declination (annual renewal)
    • Varicella immunity or vaccination
    • Flu vaccination/documentation (annual, with exemptions accepted)
    • COVID vaccination or approved exemption; booster preferred but not required
  • Drug testing within 1 year of start, updated annually.

Additional Requirements

  • Two professional references verified within 6 months of start.
  • Employment application with explanation for any gaps over 30 days.
  • Employment verification for the past 7 years.
  • Completion of required skills checklists annually.
  • Must pass facility-specific exams and competency tests with required scores.
  • Must comply with facility policies including confidentiality, acceptable use, and electronic communications.

Notes

  • Candidates must have a renewal plan in place for any certifications or documents expiring during the contract.
  • Facility does not accept local travelers within 100 miles.
  • This is a travel/contract position requiring flexibility and adherence to strict credentialing and compliance standards.
