Registered Nurse - PICU
Location: Charlottesville, Virginia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights or rotating
Schedule: 3 weekends per six-week schedule
Time Off:
- Unable to approve time off during the first 2 weeks of contract
- Can approve up to 40 hours for time off after initial period
- Unable to approve July 4th off
Job Description
- Clinical review and auto offer process
- May be required to float to NICU and Acute Care Pediatrics based on staffing needs
- Pediatric cardiac experience is a plus
- Candidates can submit with Virginia license pending
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 1 year of recent Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) experience
- Valid Virginia RN license (or pending)
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification
- Preferred certifications (may be required depending on unit):
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
- EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring)
- CHEMO certification (if applicable)
- Education: ASN required; BSN preferred
- Physical exam within 12 months attesting ability to meet physical demands of position
- Required immunizations and health screenings including:
- Tdap (Tetanus/Diphtheria/Pertussis)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray (2-step PPD or Qgold acceptable)
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella (2 vaccines or positive titer)
- Hepatitis B surface antibody titer (positive required)
- Varicella (2 vaccines or titer)
- Seasonal flu vaccination (no exemptions accepted)
- Drug screening: 10-panel including marijuana and fentanyl, within 2 months of start and updated annually
- Background checks including 7-year criminal history, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, education verification, and abuse registry search if assigned to certain units
- References: Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations
- Skills checklist and competency exams as applicable
Experience
- Specialty: Registered Nurse - PICU
- Required years of experience: Minimum 1 year of recent PICU experience
- Prior travel experience: Not required
Additional Information
- Candidates must carry government-issued photo ID during hours of service
- Fingerprinting may be required depending on unit assignment
- Pass/Fail cardiac rhythm assessment required during orientation for adult inpatient RN positions and Mother-Baby units; not required for PICU
- Professional appearance guidelines must be reviewed and acknowledged
- Fit testing required for patient-facing clinical roles, completed onsite if needed
- Latex allergy questionnaire required if applicable
This position offers a dynamic pediatric critical care environment with opportunities to float to related pediatric units. Candidates should be prepared for night or rotating shifts and a structured weekend schedule. Compliance with comprehensive health, background, and certification requirements is mandatory.
