Travel RN Opportunity – Pediatrics CVICU Cardiac

Location: Dallas, Texas
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Unit Information

  • Unit: Pediatric CVICU / CICU (Children’s Tower, 3rd Floor)
  • Number of Beds: 27
  • Staffing:
    • Day Shift: 2 charge nurses (ICU and step down), 1 PCT, RNs based on census and acuity
    • Night Shift: 2 charge nurses (ICU and step down), 1 PCT, RNs based on census and acuity
  • Patient Ratios: Typically 1:2 or 1:1, sometimes 1:3
  • Equipment: IV pumps (Medfusion, Baxter), Hillrom beds, HARD cribs and cribettes, GE radiant warmers, Somanetics NIRS machines, Servo U vents
  • EMR System: Meditech

Required Experience & Skills

  • Minimum 2 years PICU experience as a staff nurse
  • Minimum 1 year Pediatric CICU/CVICU experience as a staff nurse
  • Experience caring for patients with congenital heart disease (CHD) and post-operative management of CHD patients
  • Experience managing arterial lines, central lines, and transthoracic lines
  • Completion of 3-4 dedicated pediatric CICU contracts preferred

Preferred Experience

  • 2 or more years Pediatric CICU/CVICU experience
  • At least 1 year experience with neonatal cardiac patients (pre-op and post-op)
  • 2+ years pediatric cardiac experience in step-down or cardiology floor settings

Typical Procedures Performed

  • Central line and arterial line placement
  • Conscious sedation
  • Intubation and extubation
  • Post-operative recovery for general and cardiac procedures
  • Sternal closures
  • Codes (emergency response)
  • ECMO cannulation and decannulation
  • Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT)
  • Manual Peritoneal Dialysis (PD)

Certifications Required

  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)

Work Schedule & Environment

  • Rotating weekends: Day shift on Saturday and Sunday, night shift on Friday and Saturday
  • No on-call required
  • Scrub color: Royal blue
