Registered Nurse (ICU) - Travel Assignment

Location: Alexandria, Louisiana
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Hours per Week: 36


Unit and Work Environment

  • Medical ICU with 26 beds
  • Patient ratio: 2:1
  • Staffing includes RNs and unit secretary/COVID runner; total care provided by RNs
  • Equipment used: ventilators, Alaris IV pumps, balloon pumps, ventriculostomy drains, glucometers
  • Use of iMobile phones and technology by all staff
  • PPE includes mask, face shields, goggles, PAPRs, and hoods for COVID-19 patients
  • Documentation system: Meditech with Evidence Based Clinical Documentation (EBCD)
  • Nursing shifts are 12 hours (7 AM to 7 PM), every other weekend, with holiday requirements
  • Floating policy: nurses may float to other Medical-Surgical units, prioritizing ICU
  • Patient experience practices: hourly rounding, bedside hand-off reporting, “My Care Board” completion, use of AIDET focusing on compassionate connected care

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Louisiana
  • Minimum 1 year of Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Experience in an Acute Care setting
  • Certifications: ACLS, BLS
  • Ventilator management
  • Critical care drip knowledge
  • Proper donning and doffing of PPE

Advanced Skills and Procedures

  • Ventilator management
  • Critical care drip knowledge
  • Thorough and accurate assessment skills
  • Proficient knowledge of cardiac, neuro, and respiratory systems
  • Proper donning and doffing of PPE
  • Procedures performed on unit: intubations, cardioversions, ventriculostomy drain placement and management, intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP) management, continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT), proning of patients

Dress Code

  • Ceil blue scrubs required
  • White or ceil blue scrub jacket optional
  • Green surgery scrubs provided when working with COVID-19 patients
