Registered Nurse (RN) - Cardiology / Intermediate Care Unit (PCU)

Location: Farmington, New Mexico
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit & Facility Overview

Level III trauma center with 198 beds
Services include medical, surgical, rehabilitation, childbirth, cancer, nephrology, pediatric, behavioral health, day surgery, imaging, and lab testing
Cardiology unit with 24 beds
Patient population: Adult to geriatric
Patient ratios:
- IMC patients: 1 RN to 3-5 patients depending on shift and acuity
- Med/Surg patients: 1 RN to 5-6 patients
Equipment: Standard cardiology monitoring (Telemetry and T-1’s), IV pumps, crash carts
Electronic Health Record system: Cerner
Shift: Night shift (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Weekly hours: 36 or 48 hours (3 or 4 twelve-hour shifts) depending on contract
Call: None
Floating: Required; typically to PCU, Medical, Surgical, or Nephrology units

Required Qualifications

Valid RN license in New Mexico
Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
ACLS certification
Minimum 1 year of recent experience in Progressive Care Unit (PCU) / Intermediate Care Unit (IMC)
Cardiology experience

Skills & Experience

Experience in Cardiology or Intermediate Care Unit (IMC) essential
Preferred skillset includes cardiac care and IMC nursing
Familiarity with common diagnoses and treatments such as STEMI, Non-STEMI, stroke, post-cardiac catheterization care, and alcohol-related conditions

Additional Information

Floating to other units as needed
No weekend or call requirements specified beyond shift schedule
Located in a region offering outdoor recreational activities and a friendly community environment

Pros

Unit is comprised of many travelers. Core staff and travelers have all been fantastic! The unit is set up quite well to manage the surges of patients. It is the only main hospital around so it can definitely provide good experience. Most of the providers I've encountered over the last couple months actually listen to the nurses and are easy to work with.

Cons

It is definitely busy before the size of the town. I can't say I have any other cons.
