Registered Nurse (Tele RN) - Illinois, Freeport

Job Details

Specialty: Telemetry Registered Nurse (Tele RN)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights (12-hour shifts, 1900-0730)
Hours per Week: 36 hours
Unit Type: Telemetry (18 beds)
Patient Ratios: 4-5 patients during days, 5-6 patients during nights
Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
Holiday Requirement: Holiday rotation
Floating: Required to float to ICU, Medical-Surgical, and Emergency Room within scope of practice; may care for ER boarders
Call/Standby: No call or standby requirement for agency staff

Patient Population and Care

Common diagnoses include stroke, congestive heart failure (CHF), acute coronary syndrome (ACS), coronary artery disease (CAD), post heart catheterization patients, and arrhythmias
Experience with cath lab post recovery (femoral/radial) and stroke care is highly preferred
Drip experience required; common titratable medications include Cardizem, Amiodarone, Dopamine, and Heparin (heparin is titrated)
Telemetry monitoring: RNs sign off on central telemetry strips; monitor techs handle central telemetry

Required Qualifications

Illinois RN license required
Minimum 2+ years of recent experience in telemetry nursing with cath lab post recovery and stroke care preferred
Certifications required: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
Phlebotomy certification is a plus
Experience with Meditech electronic health record system is a plus

Orientation and Other Information

Department-specific orientation: 2 shifts of 12 hours each
Charge nurse has patient assignment; nurse aides (CNA) are available with ratios based on acuity (typically 2 CNAs)
Respiratory therapy equipment used includes BiPAP and High Flow oxygen
Scrub color is flexible (any color allowed)

This position is suitable for experienced telemetry RNs with strong skills in stroke and cardiac care, comfortable with drips and telemetry monitoring, and willing to float within acute care settings.
