• Shift: Days and Nights (varied), 12-hour shifts
• Schedule: Every other weekend and holiday required
• Unit Size: 41 beds (12 semi-private, 29 private rooms)
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratio:

  • Days: 4-5 patients per nurse
  • Nights: 5-6 patients per nurse

Job Description

• Provide nursing care for medical, surgical, and orthopedic patients; occasional behavioral health patients with medical emergencies.
• Responsibilities include patient assessment, care planning, education, medication administration, wound care, and interdisciplinary communication.
• Perform general nursing procedures such as chest tube management, tracheostomy care, assisting with paracentesis or thoracentesis.
• Monitor telemetry patients, admit and discharge patients.
• Work collaboratively in a team environment with ward secretary and nursing aides.
• Patient safety is a high priority; must be proactive in asking questions when uncertain.

• AccuDose (medication system)
• EZ Stand, Hoyer Lift, Overbed Lift
• Sequential Compression Devices (SCDs)
• Glucometers
• Space Labs Vitals Machines

Required Qualifications

• Active Minnesota RN license
• BLS certification (American Heart Association)
• Minimum 2 years of experience in a medical-surgical nursing unit
• Experience with orthopedic patients highly preferred
• Ability to monitor telemetry patients

Additional Information

• Floating to other units (Telemetry, Observation, Acute Rehab, Post-Partum) is rare and only if not needed in Med Surg.
• May float to OB, CCU, or ICU for med surg overflow or one-on-one sitter duties; stable postpartum care only.
• Must badge in and out at the facility.
• Scrub color: Navy Blue.
• Candidates must disclose if previously employed by this health system; a minimum 6-month gap is required before rehire.
• Local candidates (within 80 miles) may have adjusted pay rates (not included here).
