Job Opportunity: RN Emergency Room (Observation Unit)

Location: Salem, Massachusetts
Employment Type: Long-Term Assignment (LTA)
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Description

• Shift: Nights & Every Other Weekend (EOW), 36 hours per week
• Unit: Observation Unit with 16 beds
• Patient Population: Adult
• Clinician to Patient Ratio: 4:1 or 5:1 depending on unit needs
• Census: 10-16 patients
• EMR Systems: Epic, Asap, Clin doc
• Floating: Required
• Rotating Shifts: Required
• Must be able to read telemetry strips

Required Experience & Skills

• Minimum 2+ years of Emergency Department nursing experience
• General ED nursing skills including:

  • Patient assessment and documentation
  • IV therapy
  • Phlebotomy
  • EKG and cardiac monitoring
  • Point of care testing
  • Splinting
  • Critical thinking
  • Patient education

Certifications & Licensure

• Active Massachusetts RN License (no conditional licenses accepted)
• Required Certifications:

  • ACLS (American Heart Association)
  • PALS (American Heart Association)
  • BLS (American Heart Association only accepted for this facility)
• Additional Certifications (Preferred/Optional):

  • TNCC (optional)

Health & Compliance Requirements

• N95 Fit Test within 365 days of start date, updated annually (no religious exemptions)
• MGB Medication Exam (80% passing within 365 days)
• MGB Dysrhythmia Exam (80% passing)
• MGB Advanced Dysrhythmia Exam (80% passing)
• Influenza vaccine required during flu season (Sept 15 - April 30), no exemptions
• MMR vaccination or proof of immunity
• TB screening within 3 months of start date (skin test or blood test), updated if >6 month break
• Health statement signed by MD/DO/NP/PA within 365 days of start date
• Positive PPD requires negative chest x-ray documentation
• Hepatitis B vaccination or proof of immunity preferred
• Tdap vaccine within 10 years preferred
• Respirator Medical Clearance Attestation required

Background & Professional Verification

• Criminal background check within 45 days prior to start, including Massachusetts CORI
• MGB Resume with 7 years of work experience and education (city & state) required for submission
• Two recent professional references, at least one supervisor or above, required for submission
• MGB Skills Checklist required for submission
• MGB Confirmation of Assignment/POI Form required upon acceptance
• Education verification required (highest level achieved)
• Social Security Number trace for past 7 years
• National sex offender registry check within 30 days of start and annually
• Exclusion checks (OIG, GSA, MassHealth, NH Medicaid) within 30 days of start and annually

Additional Notes

• Prior travel experience is not explicitly required for this position.
• Floating and rotating shifts are mandatory.
• Must be able to work nights and every other weekend.
