Pediatric Acute Care Float Pool

Job Overview

  • Travel/contract RN role in San Diego, California
  • 13-week assignment
  • Variable day/night schedule
  • Float pool position caring for a wide range of pediatric acute care patients across inpatient units
  • Orientation includes 4 shifts on 4 different units

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in California
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Pediatrics (2 years of experience)
  • Pediatrics experience within the last year
  • BLS - Basic Life Support issued by American Heart Association
  • PALS - Pediatric Advanced Life Support issued by American Heart Association
  • NICU - Neonatal Intensive Care experience
  • Willingness to float to all inpatient care areas except critical care float, including NICU
  • Willingness to be placed on call
  • Ability to work 2 of these 3 holidays: Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s, including holiday eves
  • Flu vaccination during flu season

Schedule Expectations

  • 4–5 weekend day shifts or 6–7 weekend night shifts
  • One full weekend off is guaranteed in each 4-week period
  • RTO limit: 6 days maximum, with at least 3 shifts still worked that week

Additional Notes

  • First-time travelers are accepted
  • Pending state license is accepted if an ETA from licensing is available
  • Locals are not accepted
  • Block scheduling is not accommodated
  • Clinician will float within scope to meet facility needs

Work Environment

  • Pediatric acute care float pool covering medical, surgical, hematology/oncology, and medical behavioral patient populations
  • Scrub color: any color
  • Charting system: Epic

Compliance / Pre-Start Items

  • Valid photo ID required on first day
  • Badge photo required before start
  • Background check, education verification, references, drug screen, physical exam, fit test, TB clearance, and immunization documentation are required before start
  • RN medication calculation exam and pediatric pharmacology competency exam are required before start
  • Core competency modules are required before start
