Job Overview
- Position: PICU Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
- Location: Columbus, Ohio
- Shift: Day shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM - 7:30 PM)
- Hours per week: 36 hours
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Responsibilities
- Float to multiple units as needed: NICU, Cardiovascular PICU, Emergency Department, Stepdown, and Medical-Surgical.
- Must comply with facility float expectations and be willing to accept assignments in these areas.
- Recent Level 1 PICU experience required.
Required Qualifications
- License: Ohio State RN license or Compact RN license.
- Experience:
- Highly preferred 2 years of PICU experience.
- First-time travelers considered with closer to 3 years of PICU experience.
- References:
- Two professional supervisory references required.
- At least one reference must be from a supervisor or manager.
- Charge RN reference acceptable for one of the two.
- Peer references are not acceptable.
Certifications
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA certification only.
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA certification only.
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - AHA certification only.
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) - Required for NICU float.
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) - As applicable.
- ENPC (Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course) - As applicable.
Background and Compliance Requirements
- Current government-issued photo ID required within 24-48 hours of contract signing (no temporary IDs or paper licenses).
- Criminal background check within 30 days of start, including a 7-year county search and education verification.
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start.
- Ohio BCI/FBI fingerprinting required within 60 days of start; must be updated for each new contract.
- Education verification through National Student Clearinghouse or in-house verification if needed.
- Sex offender, state-specific, inmate, Medicaid exemption, and abuse registry searches required within 30 days of start.
- Code of Conduct and Confidentiality Agreement must be reviewed and signed prior to start.
- Affiliating Health Record must be completed and address must match official documents exactly.
- Infection Control Policy review and signature required prior to start.
- Fit test for N95 mask required within 1 year of start; must be updated annually.
- Drug screen (9-panel) within 60 days prior to start.
- Flu vaccine required annually (Oct 31 - May 31); medical/religious exemptions accepted with facility approval.
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine required within 10 years of start.
- TB testing options include 2 PPDs or IGRA within 12 months; additional requirements if positive.
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer required; boosters required if titers are negative or equivocal.
- Hepatitis B vaccination series or positive titer required.
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer required; boosters required if titers are negative or equivocal.
- Physical exam required within 1 year of start (agency standard).
Additional Notes
- Must be willing to comply with facility policies regarding local address restrictions (Ohio driver’s license address must not be within 60 miles of the facility to avoid being considered local).
- Candidates undergoing name changes must provide proof.
- Candidates with positive TB results must complete additional facility-specific questionnaires.
- First-time travelers are welcome but should have closer to 3 years of PICU experience.
- All documentation must be accurate, legible, and match legal names exactly (no nicknames or misspellings).
- Screenshots or photos of certifications and compliance documents are not acceptable.
This position offers a dynamic pediatric critical care environment with opportunities to work across multiple specialized units. Compliance with detailed credentialing and immunization requirements is mandatory.
