ICU Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Albuquerque, New Mexico
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Shift: Night (3 shifts of 12 hours each, 19:00 - 7:30)
Contract Length: 13 weeks (minimum new contracts and extensions must be at least 10 weeks)
Guaranteed Hours: Facility guarantees hours per week but may call off up to 3 times during the 13-week assignment


Unit & Patient Population

  • Specialty: Neuro ICU (Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit)
  • Patient Diagnoses: Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), Subarachnoid Hemorrhage (SAH), Subdural Hematoma (SDH), Tumor Resections, Status Epilepticus, and other neurologic disorders
  • Patient Ratios: Typically 1:2; may occasionally float to other ICUs, PCU floors (med-surg like patients, sometimes 6:1 ratios), ED, or PACU to care for admitted patients
  • Special Procedures & Skills Required:
    • EVD (External Ventricular Drain) insertions and management
    • Neuro post-operative care
    • A-line insertions
    • Intubation
    • Central line insertion
    • Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT)
    • Post-TPA and post-thrombectomy care
    • Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
    • Intracranial Pressure (ICP) monitoring

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in New Mexico
  • Minimum 1.5 years of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) experience, including ICU experience within the last year
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
  • Successful completion of Relias Basic Dysrhythmia Exam
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Additional Information

  • Floating: May be floated within scope to other ICUs, PCU floors, ED, and PACU as needed
  • Local Candidates: Not accepted within 100 miles radius
  • Schedule Flexibility: Block scheduling may be accommodated but is not guaranteed
  • Return to Office (RTO) Restrictions: Absences greater than 7 days require approval
  • Overtime: OT applies after 48 hours worked per week on contracts signed on or after 10/30/2025
  • Travel Experience: Prior travel experience is not required
  • COVID-19 Vaccine: Optional; facility reports vaccination numbers but does not require vaccination
  • Transportation: Valid non-local driver’s license required; location is not near public transportation
