Job Opportunity: Interventional Radiology Registered Nurse

Location: Baton Rouge, Louisiana
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Work Schedule

  • Monday to Friday, 8-hour shifts
  • Standard shift: 6:30 AM – 3:00 PM
  • On-call shift: 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM (on-call requirements can be discussed)

Job Description

  • Circulate as a nurse during interventional radiology (IR) procedures; scrubbing cases is not required
  • Procedures include:
    • CT-guided biopsies (lung, liver, kidney, bone marrow, abscess drains, nerve plexus blocks)
    • Chest tube placement
    • Angiograms (peripheral, mesenteric), venograms, fistulagrams
    • Vascular access device placements (vas cath, IVC filter, nephrostomy tube, chole tube)
    • Procedural sedation competency and monitoring
  • Knowledge of pre-procedural paperwork, including history & physical (H&P), consent, orders, and labs, is required
  • Preference for candidates with prior travel experience; local candidates are not preferred

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Louisiana
  • Minimum of 1 year of Interventional Radiology experience, including experience within the last year
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Experience

  • Minimum years of experience as a Registered Nurse: Not explicitly stated; assume standard RN competency for IR nursing
  • Prior travel experience is preferred but not explicitly required

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

  • Copy of valid Driver’s License or State ID
  • Criminal background check (updated if no assignment within last 90 days)
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required
  • Physical exam within 1 year, updated annually
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year, with annual renewal
  • Annual respirator fit testing (fit mask)
  • 12-panel drug screen within 90 days prior to start
  • Two professional references required
  • Completion of facility-specific health and confidentiality agreements prior to start
  • Influenza and COVID-19 vaccination exemption forms available for medical or religious reasons (if applicable)

Additional Notes

  • Flu vaccination is not required for employment but documentation or declination form should be obtained for records
  • Healthstream training courses assigned on orientation day must be completed, including glucose testing return demonstration if applicable
  • Candidates must be competent in medication administration and pharmacology as required by specialty
