Job Opportunity: Oncology Registered Nurse

Location: San Francisco, California
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 14 weeks


Job Details

  • 12-hour shifts, rotating between day (7:00 AM - 7:30 PM) and night (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
  • Schedule: 3 shifts per week (36 hours/week)
  • Ability to float to other facilities within the system

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in California
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
  • Minimum 2 years of oncology experience, including inpatient setting experience
  • Oncology experience within the last year
  • Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) experience
  • Certifications:
    • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS)
    • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
    • Chemotherapy Certification (ONS/ONCC)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) credential

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Two supervisory references from recent employment (charge nurses acceptable)
  • Current and updated resume covering the last 7 years, with explanations for any gaps over 30 days
  • Unit-specific skills checklist, updated annually
  • Verification of 7 years of work history matching the resume (not required for non-clinical roles)
  • Background checks including:
    • 7-year criminal history covering all counties lived/worked in, plus 5 specific Bay Area counties
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
    • Sex offender search as required
  • Education verification or copy of diploma/transcript
  • Primary source verification of RN license within 30 days of start
  • NURSYS verification within 30 days of start
  • Pass/fail testing on medication/pharmacology and telemetry (specific units only) with two attempts allowed
  • Core competency exams (Parts I, II, III) with passing score of 80% or higher, completed within one year prior to start and updated annually

Health & Safety Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, including physician statement of fitness to work
  • Fit mask test within 1 year of start (specific approved masks required), with onsite fit testing available as last resort
  • Immunizations and titers required:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years; no declinations accepted except medical exemptions)
    • Two negative TB tests (PPD, QuantiFERON, or T-Spot) with specific timing requirements, or documentation for positive TB history
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: IGG titer or 2 vaccines required
    • Hepatitis B: titer, series, or declination (declination must be signed within 1 year)
    • Varicella: IGG titer or 2 vaccines required (history of disease not accepted)
  • Drug testing: Standard 9-panel (excluding THC) within 30 days of start, re-run every 2 years
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or facility-specific declination required during flu season (Nov-Apr)
  • COVID-19 vaccination is strongly recommended but not required as of current policy

Facility-Specific Requirements

  • Completion of learning modules prior to or on Day 1 of assignment (for RNs starting on Tuesday, all modules except in-person trainings must be completed before Day 1)
  • Review and initial facility policies including:
    • COVID-19 preparedness
    • Parking and uniform guidelines
    • Cyber security awareness training and quiz (annual, passing score 80%)
    • HIPAA healthcare provider modules and quizzes (for clinical staff)
  • Completion of annual TB questionnaire within 30 days of start
  • Emergency contact information form required

Additional Notes

  • Candidates must have completed references at time of submission
  • Pass/fail telemetry exam required for nurses working in specified units
  • Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) and Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) may be required depending on unit assignment
  • Candidates may be required to complete respirator medical evaluation questionnaire and fit testing if assigned to specific departments
  • Religious and medical exemptions for COVID-19 vaccination require advance approval and documentation
