Registered Nurse – Urology (Travel/Contract)
Location: Washington, District of Columbia
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Day shift, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM (5 days/week, 40 hours/week)
Job Summary
- Provide nursing care in a urology specialty setting.
- Responsibilities include interpretation of laboratory results, medication reconciliation, pain assessment, patient history/allergies, vital signs monitoring, oxygen administration, Foley catheter insertion, specimen labeling, and use of AED.
- Assist with urinary catheter changes and procedure setup.
- Must tolerate wearing a lead apron regularly due to use of C-Arm during video urodynamic studies (approximately 1 day per week, sometimes additional cases).
- Required to float within units of equivalent or lower acuity.
- No work on hospital-observed holidays.
- May come into contact with COVID-19 patients.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in District of Columbia.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Minimum 2 years of ambulatory care nursing experience, with at least some experience within the last year.
- Experience in urology nursing.
- BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
Clinical & Technical Skills
- Interpretation of laboratory results
- Medication reconciliation
- Pain assessment
- Patient health questionnaire/history/allergies
- Vital signs: blood pressure, respirations, temperature, pulse
- Pulse oximetry
- Oxygen administration (nasal cannula, face mask)
- Foley catheter insertion and urinary catheter changes
- Use of AED
- Labeling of specimens
- Universal precautions
- Ability to wear lead apron during procedures
Facility & Documentation Requirements
- Charting in any EMR required; Cerner preferred.
- Must complete facility-specific modules prior to start.
- Required to complete annual competency exams including medication/pharmacology and EKG/dysrhythmia competency if applicable.
- Must provide two positive supervisory references supporting at least 2 years of experience within the last 3 years.
- Complete 7 years of work history with no gaps, including education, employment, license, and contact information.
Health & Safety Requirements
- Annual physical exam confirming ability to perform work without accommodations and free from communicable disease.
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year; annual TB questionnaire required.
- Immunizations or titers required for:
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella (2 MMR vaccines or positive titer)
- Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer)
- Hepatitis B (titer, series, or signed declination)
- Tdap vaccine within 10 years preferred
- Annual flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season.
- N95 fit test within 9 months of start, updated annually.
- Drug screen within 90 days of start (excluding marijuana), including multiple substances.
Background & Compliance
- Criminal background check within 90 days of start covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years.
- Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks prior to and during employment.
- Education verification for highest degree required by position.
- I9/E-Verify attestation required prior to start.
- Annual acknowledgment of orientation safety manual.

- This is a teaching facility with 818 staffed beds.
