Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse – CVICU (Cardiac ICU)
Location: Columbus, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Work Schedule
- 36 hours per week
- Shifts: Night (3x12 hours, 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM) or Day (3x12 hours, 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM)
- Up to 6 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule (Saturday/Sunday for dayshift, Friday/Saturday for nightshift)
- Rotating holidays
- No call required
- Floating within units of equivalent or lower acuity, with unit rotation for travelers limited to once every 4 weeks
- Estimated patient ratios: 1:1 to 1:2
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio
- Minimum 2 years of Cardiac ICU (CVICU) experience, with CVICU experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Experience with telemetry monitoring
- Experience with ventilator management (VENTS)
- Experience with Swan-Ganz catheters (SWANZ)
- Experience with conscious sedation
- Experience with intra-aortic balloon pumps (balloon pumps)
- Experience with pulmonary artery (PA) lines
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system
Certifications & Competencies
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required within 1 year of start and updated annually (minimum passing score 76%, max 3 attempts)
- Unit-specific competency exams required
- Medication test/pharmacology competency exam required prior to start
- Orientation safety manual acknowledgment required annually
- State license verification within 30 days of start
- NURSYS verification required for RNs
- NIH Stroke Certification may be required depending on unit (check specifics)
Background & Screening Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including SS trace, counties lived/worked, nationwide check, sex offender registry, and motor vehicle record if driving is part of the job
- FBI and BCI fingerprinting required using specific Ohio code (3701.881) within 1 year of start; new fingerprinting required if break in service >90 days or results older than 1 year
- Education accreditation confirmation required for nursing degree from accredited programs (CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA)
- Employment application and skills checklist required
- 2 professional references required (at least one from a manager or formal leadership)
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG monthly monitoring required
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease
- Negative TB test (PPD, QGold, or TSPOT) within 1 year or chest x-ray if positive; TB questionnaire required annually in lieu of TB test
- Tetanus-diphtheria-pertussis (Tdap) vaccine (adult dose after age 11/12) required
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella): 2 vaccines or positive titer; boosters required if low titer and no proof of vaccines
- Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer; medical exemptions require documentation
- Hepatitis B: titer or 3-vaccine series; signed declination acceptable
- Seasonal flu vaccine or declination required during flu season (Oct 1 – Mar 31); mask required if declining
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (includes amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cannabinoids, cocaine, methadone, methaqualone, opiates, PCP, propoxyphene)
- COVID-19 vaccination not required but strongly recommended
Additional Facility-Specific Requirements
- Confidential Fraud, Waste, Abuse, and Compliance Reporting Mechanism form required
- Fraud, Waste, and Abuse training certificate required prior to start and updated annually
- Dress code and hand hygiene policy acknowledgment required
- Background acknowledgment form required for subcontractors
- Proof of fingerprint completion required for all candidates (physical receipt or photo of fingerprint cards)
- Ohio State-specific fingerprint result attestation handled by agency; do not upload results separately
