Job Opportunity: Histology Tech (Laboratory)
Location: Atlanta, Georgia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 12 weeks
Job Details
- Perform frozen sections, IHC, special stains, and recuts
- Limited embedding on this shift
- No weekend or on-call requirements
- Floating within scope, but rare
- Must have minimum 2 years of experience in the specialty
- Unit does not accept first-time travelers (prior travel experience required)
- Clinical screening required to determine fit before final approval
- Return to Office (RTO) within 7 days
- Holiday work expectations:
- If 1 major holiday falls during assignment, traveler expected to work it
- If 2 major holidays fall, traveler expected to work both
- If 3 major holidays fall, traveler expected to work 2 of them
- Major holidays include Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving/Black Friday, Christmas Eve/Day, New Year’s Eve/Day
- Full compliance with orientation and credentialing required to start on time; delays may push start date by 2 weeks
- Local candidates accepted at same rate
Required Experience
- Minimum 2 years in Laboratory specialty
- Prior travel experience is required (not a first-time traveler)
Certifications & Licenses
- State License verification required (if applicable)
- Allied Annual License Verification (if applicable) within 30 days prior to start
- ACLS, BLS, PALS, NRP, EFM certifications may be required depending on specialty and unit (refer to clinical guidelines)
- Education verification required; diplomas/transcripts may be needed
- Color Blind Testing required (with alternative assessment if needed)
Compliance & Screening Requirements
- Background check required within 30 days of start, including:
- County and national criminal searches
- Sex offender registry
- Education verification
- Drug testing: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start; instant drug screen acceptable under certain conditions
- Physical exam within 12 months of start (required by agency, not client)
- TB testing: Negative PPD, QGold, or TSpot within 12 months; additional requirements for positive history
- Immunizations/vaccinations required or declination forms accepted for:
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella)
- Varicella
- Hepatitis B (series, titer, or signed declination)
- Flu seasonal vaccination or declination (strongly encouraged during flu season)
- Annual TB questionnaire required regardless of TB status
Additional Requirements
- Skills checklist within 12 months, updated annually
- Work history verification required (can be pending at start with proof it is in process)
- Two clinical references required (agency requirement, not client)
- Must review and sign facility-specific policies such as Code of Conduct and Dress/Professional Appearance Policy
Orientation & Training
- Number of non-billable orientation hours depends on contract length (e.g., 8 hours for 8-week assignment)
- Respirator fit test may be required during on-site orientation (for privileging specialties)
