Required Qualifications

• BLS (AHA)
• Acute Care Nursing
• RN competency in reading telemetry strips

Unit Details

• Patient mix: Heart failure (CHF), pneumonia, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) exacerbations, and general Med Surg patients
• Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:4/5 on days and 1:5/6 on nights
• Telemetry: Phillips Telemetry; centrally monitored off the unit
• Drips: RNs are not required to titrate drips
• Charge nurse: Does not take an assignment
• Nurse aides: 1:12
• Respiratory / equipment needs: Moderate oxygen needs
• Scrub color: Navy Blue

Scheduling and Logistics

• Scheduling: Self-scheduling and block scheduling
• Weekend requirement: Minimum of six weekend shifts per six-week schedule
• Holiday requirement: Yes
• Call / standby: Determined by nurse manager
• Floating: May float within Zone 3 if there is extreme need
• Orientation: Clinicians must be in state for the week of orientation; date and location are assigned during orientation week

• May be asked to float to:

  • ICU with low-acuity holds
  • PCU / Stepdown
  • MS-Tele
