Registered Nurse (RN) - Centralized Registry Float

Location: Fort Wayne, Indiana
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Days
Hours: 12-hour shifts, approximately 36 hours per week
Weekend Requirement: 3 weekend shifts in 4 weeks
Dress Code: Caribbean Blue scrubs


Job Summary

Provide general medical-surgical nursing care on Level 1, Level 2, or tertiary units, floating to other medical units as needed. Patient ratios typically range from 1:5 to 1:6. Care involves a diverse patient population with chronic illnesses, infections, neurological issues, mental health disorders, and patients undergoing various procedures.


Patient Population & Conditions

  • Chronic illnesses: COPD, Diabetes, CHF, End Stage Renal Disease
  • GI issues: Pancreatitis, bleeding, gastroparesis, inflammatory bowel diseases
  • Infections: Pneumonia, cellulitis, sepsis, UTI, C. difficile
  • Neurological: Stroke, dementia, traumatic brain injuries
  • Mental health: Depression, anxiety, substance abuse
  • Procedures: Colonoscopies, thoracentesis, paracentesis, bronchoscopy, minor surgeries (lap chole, I&D, biopsies, amputation)

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Patient assessments and care planning
  • Inter-professional communication
  • Electronic Health Record (EHR) documentation using Epic
  • Management of IV therapy, including heparin and insulin drips
  • Use of equipment such as IV pumps, wound vacs, feeding pumps and tubes, chest tubes, telemetry monitoring
  • Use of pyxis machines, Accucheck blood glucose monitors, Hospira IV pumps, SCDs for VTE prevention, heating/cooling pads

Orientation & Training

  • Jump Start orientation program: 1 day general hospital orientation + ~5 days nursing orientation including Epic training
  • 8 hours of non-billable orientation (not applicable if returning within 12 months)

Required Qualifications

  • Indiana RN license or compact RN license (effective 7/1/20)
  • BLS certification through the American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Minimum 1.5 years of experience in Level 1, Level 2, or tertiary care units
  • At least 1 year of MedSurg experience at a large hospital (600+ beds)

Additional Information

  • Floating limited to other medical units only
  • Local candidates within 50 miles may be considered under a reduced rate policy
  • Client may cancel assignment up to 24 hours before the start of the 13-week contract

This position is ideal for experienced MedSurg RNs comfortable with a variety of patient conditions and procedures, who are flexible to float within medical units and work 12-hour day shifts including some weekends.
