Job Opportunity: Medical-Surgical/Telemetry Float Pool Nurse

Location: Centennial, Colorado
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Position Overview

• Float pool nursing role covering multiple units within a 60-mile radius zone.
• No home base facility; nurses must be prepared to float across various hospitals and units within the zone.
• Units include General Medical-Surgical Telemetry and specialties such as Cardiac, Neuro, Oncology, Rehab, Renal, Bariatrics, Orthopedics, Trauma, and Emergency Department Observation.

Required Experience & Skills

• Minimum 2 years of Medical-Surgical Telemetry (MS-Tele) nursing experience (higher experience requirement noted).
• Prior neuro experience preferred but not mandatory.
• Ability to titrate Heparin drips.

Certifications Required

• ACLS (American Heart Association)
• BLS (American Heart Association)
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)

Patient Population & Nurse-Patient Ratios

• Adult to Geriatric patients with a variety of diagnoses including cardiac, neurological, orthopedic, oncology, renal, urology post-surgical, general surgery post-appendectomy, gynecology, psychiatric/detox, ENT, general medicine, and stable long-term placement patients.
• Nurse-to-patient ratio typically 1:5-6 depending on patient acuity.

Work Schedule & Requirements

• Shifts: 12-hour shifts (7 AM - 7 PM).
• Schedule created by leadership for 6 weeks at a time; flexibility required to fill gaps in permanent staffing.
• Weekend shifts: 6-9 weekends per 6-week schedule.
• Holiday rotation participation may be required.
• Call or standby is rare and only for low census situations.
• All time off requests must be submitted prior to assignment start.

Float & Assignment Details

• Nurses must float throughout the entire zone (60-mile radius), including multiple facilities.
• Float assignments vary by schedule and will be communicated before the start date.
• May be asked to float to different acuity levels including ICU (low acuity holds), PCU/Stepdown, and MS-Tele units.
• Designated charge nurse on each unit who generally does not take patient assignments unless necessary.
• Nurse aides are present on units.
• Respiratory therapy equipment such as vents, CPAP, BiPAP are used on units.

Orientation

• Week of orientation requires clinicians to be in-state, even if some modules are remote.
