Registered Nurse – Neuro ICU

Location: Carmichael, California
Contract Length: 13 weeks (approximately 3 months)
Unit: Neuro ICU (20 beds)

Job Description

Seeking experienced Neuro ICU nurses for a travel contract. The unit is a newer, state-of-the-art Neuro ICU with a strong Stroke Program and Neuro Center. Typical patient diagnoses include CVA, intracerebral hemorrhage, neuro surgeries, craniotomies, neuro interventional radiology, and ventriculostomies. Line insertions are common.

Work Environment & Schedule

• Shift Length: 12-hour shifts, starting at 6:45 AM/PM
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• Holidays: Rotate with core staff
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:1 to 1:2
• Charge Nurse Role: Yes, generally does not take patients but provides break relief
• Nurse Aides: Available as Safety Attendants (sitters)
• Floating: First to float to sister facilities; mid-shift float is rare
• Scheduling: Self-scheduling with manager final approval; schedules released 4 weeks in advance; ability to trade shifts and pick up extra shifts
• Orientation: 1-2 days floor-specific orientation with preceptor

• EMR System: Cerner
• Telemetry: Yes, must be able to read and interpret EKG strips
• Ventilator Patients: Yes
• Hospitalist or Intensivist: In-house coverage
• Respiratory Therapy: Available 24/7
• Pharmacy: ICU Pharmacy open during dayshift, pharmacy available 24/7
• IV Team: Not available

Required Certifications & Licenses

• Active California RN License
• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
• NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) Certification

Requirements/Qualifications

• Valid RN license in California
• Minimum 2 years of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) experience, including ICU experience within the last year
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• BLS certification
• ACLS certification
• NIHSS certification

Additional Requirements & Notes

• Candidates may not have been employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by certain affiliated health systems within the past year; PRN employment through outside firms is acceptable
• Two supervisory references required at submission (one within 12 months, one within 3 years)
• Dys exam through UNA required prior to contract signing; must pass with 80% within 2 attempts
• Scrub color: Navy (under shirts must be navy, white, or black; scrub jackets optional but must be navy)
