CVOR RN Position - St Alexius Health Bismarck Medical Center, Bismarck, North Dakota

Contract Length

• 13 weeks

Required Certifications

• BLS (Basic Life Support)

Experience

• Minimum 3 years of Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR) experience
• Experience with open heart surgeries (CABG, Valve, aneurysms), thoracotomies, VATS, Convergent, AAA, carotids, ION robotic cases, ECMO, Impella 5.5, Stryker towers
• Must be willing to cross-train into general OR and other specialties if CV volume is low

Work Schedule & Call Requirements

• Primarily 8-hour shifts, Monday to Friday, 06:45 - 15:15
• Call 1-2 weekdays per week from 15:15 - 06:45
• Call every 3-4 weekends (Friday 15:15 to Monday 06:45)
• Rotating holiday call; must be willing to work holidays
• Call response time: 15 minutes
• Post-call reprieve shifts of 8 hours provided
• Sleep room and nearby housing available for call coverage
• CV RNs create their own call schedule as a group

Shift Details

• 2 CVOR suites
• Average 1-3 cases per day, including thoracic and vascular cases
• Charge Nurse coverage on all shifts (7am-11pm M-F, 7am-7pm weekends)
• Manager available until 4pm M-F
• OR techs present on shifts
• EMR system: EPIC

Floating & Additional Duties

• Must be willing to float to other specialties or floors as "helping hands" or 1:1 sitter when CVOR volume is low
• Floating does not involve patient care but assists floor staff
• Refusal to float results in unpaid supplemental time off (RDO day)

Orientation

• 3-4 days hospital clinical orientation including EPIC training and unit modules
• 4-5 days unit-based orientation
• 2 buddy call shifts
• Orientation is flexible based on recent heart surgery experience

Additional Notes

• Scrubbing is not required for RNs in this role
• Scrub color and dress code provided
• Radius rule: candidates must live within 50 miles and cannot be employed full-time, part-time, or PRN with any CommonSpirit-associated facility (including CHI or Dignity)
• Return to work (RTO) required within 7 days of contract start; no additional RTO approvals after submission
