Job Description

• Role involves circulating and scrub nursing duties in the Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR).
• Circulating Nurse responsibilities: managing overall nursing care in the OR, maintaining a safe and comfortable environment.
• Scrub Nurse responsibilities: preparing the sterile field, setting up surgical equipment and supplies, assisting the surgeon by passing instruments and managing specimens, and performing counts of sponges and supplies with the circulating nurse to prevent retained foreign objects.
• Patient population includes cardiac, vascular, and thoracic surgery cases such as:

  • Cardiac surgery: coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG), valve repair/replacement (including minimally invasive and robotic valves), transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR), left ventricular assist device (LVAD) placement.
  • Vascular surgery: open and endovascular abdominal aneurysm repair, peripheral vascular procedures, carotid stenting, angioplasty, amputations.
  • Thoracic surgery: open thoracotomy, video-assisted thoracoscopy (VATS), esophageal/hernia repairs, bronchoscopy, esophagoscopy, robotic procedures.
• Staffing ratio: 1:1 RN-to-patient
• Facility has 7 CVOR suites
• 80-mile radius travel rule applies

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in North Carolina
• CVOR nursing experience of at least 1 year within the last year
• American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Additional Information

• 40 hours per week
• Will circulate in the OR
