Med Surg 3CC RN Position
Location: Bismarck, North Dakota
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit Details
- Department: MedSurg 3CC RN
- Number of Beds: 30
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratios:
- Days: 1:4-5
- Nights: 1:5-6
- Common Patient Types:
- Total joint replacement
- Spinal surgery
- Urology procedures
- Abdominal surgery (lap appendectomy, bowel resection)
- Bariatrics
- Medical overflow
- Frequent use of hemo hemovacs and JP drains
- Colostomies
- No gynecology patients (these go to maternity and cardiac MS Tele units)
Requirements & Skills
- Certifications Required: BLS
- Preferred Experience:
- Surgical experience
- Post-op care
- Early ambulation
- Open to first-time travelers
- RNs are not required to titrate drips
- Common drips/pumps encountered: occasional heparin drip, PCA pump, TPN
- Charge Nurse: Present on both shifts; nights may take a low acuity assignment
- Nurse Aids/Patient Care Techs: Yes, ratio approximately 1 tech per 12 patients
- Respiratory Therapy Equipment: Nasal cannula used; RT handles treatments
- Telemetry/Monitor Techs: Remote telemetry packs used; monitor tech reads and interprets strips
- RNs do not read their own telemetry strips
Scheduling & Work Environment
- Shifts:
- 0700-1930 (Days)
- 1900-0730 (Nights)
- Scheduling: Manager creates schedule; 7-on/7-off rotation will not occur more than weekly; block scheduling considered if unit needs are met
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Holiday Requirement: As needed
- Floating: Required to float to medical and telemetry units; assistance provided for telemetry strip interpretation; may take medical patients in those areas
- Dress Code: Any color scrubs allowed
- Additional Notes: Bedside shift report is expected
- Unit Culture: Close-knit and positive
Additional Information
- Radius Rule: Candidates must be within 50 miles and may not currently be employed full-time, part-time, or PRN with any facility associated with CommonSpirit, including CHI and/or Dignity
- Return to Office (RTO): Required within 7 days or less of starting the 13-week contract; no additional RTO approvals after submission
