Registered Nurse (Med Surg/Progressive Care) - Arizona

• Show Low, Arizona
• Altitude: 7,000 ft.
• Close to outdoor activities and within a few hours of Flagstaff and Phoenix

Job Details

• Specialty: Med Surg/Progressive Care (Telemetry unit with PCU capabilities)
• Shift: Nights
• Schedule: Three 12-hour shifts per week (36 hours guaranteed)
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (days Sat & Sun and nights Fri & Sat)
• Contract Length: 13 weeks
• Orientation: 2-3 days with preceptor
• Unit Size: 18 beds (Telemetry with 6 PCU-capable beds, all private rooms)
• Mixed unit with COVID patients as needed (temporary walls and air handling system)
• Floating: May float to all Med Surg units; 12-hour night shifts

Patient Care & Environment

• Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:4 on Med Surg, 1:3 on PCU/Stepdown
• Support staff includes Telemetry techs, charge nurse, HUCs, PCTs, and CNAs (each CNA takes up to 9 patients)
• No ventilators; high flow oxygen for COVID step-down patients; patients may be on home CPAP
• Hospitalist and Respiratory Therapist available 24/7
• Pharmacy available 24/7
• No IV team; nurses manage medications including Cardizem, amiodarone, bumex, Lasix, integrillin, octreotide, protonix
• Telemetry monitors: Phillips monitors with monitor tech room; nurses validate monitor tech interpretations and document at least every 4 hours or more frequently as needed

Common Diagnoses

• Acute Myocardial Infarction (AMI)
• Stroke / Transient Ischemic Attacks (TIA)
• Pneumonia
• Renal issues including dialysis
• Atrial Fibrillation with Rapid Ventricular Response (afib rvr)
• Systemic Inflammatory Response Syndrome (SIRS)
• Diabetes Mellitus (DM)

Required Qualifications

• Registered Nurse (RN) license
• BLS (AHA) required
• ACLS (AHA) required
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification preferred
• Minimum 2 years of nursing experience, including Med Surg in an acute care setting (1 year required, 2 years preferred)
• Experience with Telemetry patients required

Additional Notes

• Charge nurse available 24/7 and may take 0-2 patients when needed
• Nurse managers do rounds but do not provide direct patient care
