Registered Nurse — Surgical ICU

Contract Length

• 13 weeks

Schedule

• 12-hour day shifts
• 36 hours per week

Required Qualifications

• Active Illinois RN license or confirmation that the application process has been initiated
• BLS certification
• ACLS certification
• ICU experience
• Level I trauma experience

Unit Details

• 13-bed Surgical ICU
• Typical nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:2, with occasional 1:1 or 1:3 assignments
• Common patient types include post-surgical, open abdomen, multisystem trauma, and endovascular cases
• Nurses are expected to titrate drips, including pressors, sedation, paralytics, and insulin
• Nurses are responsible for reading and interpreting telemetry strips
• Respiratory therapy is available in the ICU 24/7
• Charge nurse support is available, and a house supervisor is on site 24/7
• Patient care tech support is available at a ratio of 1:10

Scheduling Expectations

• 6 weekend shifts in a 6-week period
• Every other holiday
• No call or standby requirement

Floating

• May float to lower levels of care and take a full patient assignment there

Orientation

• 12 hours of non-billable orientation
• Unit orientation includes training on the charting system, educator time, shadowing, and preceptor time

Additional Notes

• Local placements are accepted within a 50-mile radius
• Candidates must complete a negative drug screen
• No specific scrub color is required
