Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Surgical ICU position requiring Level I trauma and ICU experience along with an active IL license.

Details

• Acute care hospital setting in the Surgical ICU (13 beds)
• Patient population includes post-surgical, open abdomen, multi-system trauma, and endovascular cases
• Nurse to patient ratios typically 1:2, occasionally 1:1 or 1:3
• RNs responsible for titrating drips including pressors, sedation, paralytics, and insulin
• RNs responsible for reading and interpreting their own telemetry strips
• Support staff includes nurse aides/patient care techs at 1:10 ratio, monitor techs, in-house intensivists (0700-1900) with tele-medicine coverage after hours, and 24/7 in-house RT
• EPIC EMR used
• 12-hour day shifts, 7:00-7:30
• Weekend requirement of 6 shifts within a 6 week period
• Holiday coverage required every other holiday
• Floating required, including to lower levels of care (Stepdown at 3 patients or general medicine at 5-6 patients) with a full patient assignment
• No call or standby requirement

Requirements

• Active IL RN license required (or proof of application in process)
• BLS and ACLS certification (AHA) required
• Minimum 1 year of experience required
• Level I trauma center and ICU experience required
• EPIC EMR experience preferred

Additional Information

• Unit-specific orientation includes 8 hours of EPIC and systems training, 8 hours with an educator, 4-hour shadow shift, and 12 hours with a preceptor on the unit
• Charge nurse present each shift and may take a patient assignment as staffing allows, with a house supervisor available 24/7
• No specific scrub color or dress code required
• Negative drug screen required as facility is a drug-free campus
• COVID vaccination not required
• Local candidates accepted with a reduced local rate for those within 50 miles of the facility
