Required Qualifications

• RN license
• BLS (AHA)
• ACLS (AHA)
• NIHSS

Unit Details

• Common patient types include CHF, hypertension and chest pain work-ups, COPD exacerbations, asthma, pneumonia, pancreatitis, bowel obstructions, gastrointestinal bleeding, and acute renal failure.
• RNs are required to titrate drips.
• Common titratable or set-rate drips include analgesics for pain, anticoagulants for blood clots, and antihypertensives for blood pressure control.
• No tele/monitor techs on the unit; RNs are not required to read their own strips.
• Charge nurse takes an assignment.
• Nurse aide ratio: 1:5
• Respiratory equipment includes Cpap, BiPap, High Flow, and vents.

Scheduling and Work Expectations

• Self-scheduling and block scheduling are available.
• Weekend requirement: full- and part-time employees are expected to self-schedule a minimum of six weekend shifts per six-week schedule.
• Holiday requirement: yes.
• Call or standby requirement is determined by the nurse manager.
• Floating is determined by the nurse manager and department needs; in an extreme need, the role may float within Zone 1.
• Unit-specific orientation details are assigned during the week of orientation.
• Clinicians must be in state for the week of orientation, even if first-day modules are remote.
