24 Tower Med/Tele RN

Role Overview

• 24 Tower Med/Tele RN in Houston, Texas
• 6-week contract
• Days, 12-hour shifts, 36 hours per week

Required Qualifications

• RN license
• BLS
• ACLS
• NIHSS
• Must be able to read and interpret tele strips
• Must be proficient in blood administration
• Must be able to titrate drips
• Must be flexible with scheduling; no self-scheduling
• Must be open to floating
• Must be able to work EOW
• Must be able to pass a Relias EKG exam prior to orientation start

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Cystic Fibrosis and Sickle Cell patients
• Successful placements have 3+ years of experience
• Prior travel experience
• Experience working in a very busy hospital

Unit Details

• 30 beds
• 2 negative pressure rooms for TB and overflow COVID
• Busy, high-acuity Level 1 Trauma unit
• Nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:5-6
• Common patient populations include surgical overflow, post-op spine and abdominal surgeries, Cystic Fibrosis, wound care, bariatric complications, and Sickle Cell patients
• Tele techs are on the unit
• Charge nurse available on all shifts
• Unit secretary on the unit
• PCAs on the unit
• RT performs nebulizer treatments
• High flow, nasal cannula, CPAP, and BiPAP are used; continuous BiPAP goes to Stepdown

Floating

• If overstaffed, travelers are first to float
• Float scope is to medsurg tele floors and acuity floors

Scheduling and Shift Notes

• Scheduled based on unit needs
• 6 weekend shifts in a 6-week period
• No call or standby
• Unable to accept PTO from 12/10 through the first week in January
• 30-minute lunch break with buddy coverage
• Day shift includes MDR-discharge rounding at 11

Additional Notes

• Teal scrubs preferred; black top allowed, pants must be teal
• 2-day unit orientation
• Daily parking is $15+ per day; monthly parking pass options range from $95 to $120
