Registered Nurse (RN) – Medical ICU / Progressive Care Unit

Location: Fort Wayne, Indiana
Employment Type: Traveler - Backfill
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: 3:00 AM – 3:00 PM (Three 12-hour shifts per week)
Hours per Week: 36

Job Overview

• Care for ventilated patients and critically ill medical patients with diagnoses including sepsis, respiratory failure (acute and chronic), renal failure (acute and chronic), myocardial infarctions, pulmonary embolism, and pneumonia.
• Work on a mixed acuity unit with both ICU and progressive care patients; majority of patients will be progressive care.
• Assist with intubations and line placements.
• Initiate and titrate IV drips such as vasopressors, sedation, and paralytics.
• Utilize equipment including Phillips heart monitors, Epic EMR, Pyxis, EKG machines, and dopplers.
• Float to all ICU, progressive care, and med-surg units while maintaining a maximum nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:3.

Unit Details

• Medical ICU: 24 beds
• Progressive Care Unit: 12 beds
• Nurse-to-patient ratios:

  • Progressive Care: 1:3 (or 1:4 with transfers/medical patients)
  • ICU: 1:2 (or 1:3 with transfers/medical patients)
• Traditional weekday plus weekend rotation; never work alone.

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Indiana
• Minimum 1.5 years of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) experience, including experience within the last year
• BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
• ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing

Orientation & Training

• One day of unit-specific onboarding.
• Workforce development training including policy review and Epic EMR access.

Dress Code

• Caribbean blue scrubs.
• Jackets must be black, white, or Caribbean blue.
• Undershirts (short or long sleeve) must be black or white.
