Registered Nurse (RN) - Nursing Resource Team

Location: Coeur d'Alene, Idaho
Employment Type: Contract Clinician
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Overview

This position is part of a hospital-wide Nursing Resource Team (NRT) that floats across multiple units including Emergency Room (ER), Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Progressive Care Unit (PCU), Medical-Surgical (Med Surg), and Behavioral Health (Adult Acute, Youth Acute, Addiction Recovery). The role requires flexibility, strong time management, and the ability to work with diverse patient populations and interdisciplinary teams.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide nursing care across various units as a float nurse.
  • Evaluate, plan, implement, and document nursing care for assigned patients.
  • Assist physicians during examinations and procedures.
  • Perform patient tests and administer medications within RN scope of practice.
  • Promote patient independence through education on conditions, medications, and self-care.
  • Maintain familiarity with standards of care and procedures in all supported units.
  • Adapt to unit-specific needs and maintain regular, predictable attendance.
  • Engage in relationship-based, culturally competent care.
  • Use clinical evidence and data to improve patient outcomes.
  • Communicate effectively within nursing and inter-professional teams.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years of nursing experience in all of the following areas (can be concurrent):
    • Emergency Room (ER)
    • Intensive Care Unit (ICU) (experience within last 2 years required)
    • Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
    • Medical-Surgical (Med Surg)
    • Behavioral Health/Psych (Adult Acute, Youth Acute, Addiction Recovery)
  • Experience with cardiac drips and non-invasive ventilation.
  • Graduate of a nationally accredited nursing program (BSN highly preferred).
  • Licenses/Certifications:
    • Registered Nurse license in Idaho or compact state.
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) - AHA certified.
    • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) - AHA certified.
    • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS).
    • Restraint C certification (can be completed during orientation).
    • MOAB 8-hour class (covered during orientation).
    • Department of Health & Welfare Background Fingerprinting (required due to Behavioral Health floating).
  • Competent to meet age-specific needs of assigned units.

Schedule & Work Conditions

  • 12-hour shifts: 0700-1930 or 1900-0730.
  • Schedule varies based on unit needs.
  • Every other weekend required.
  • Floating assignments communicated 2 hours prior to shift; mid-shift floating possible.
  • Nurse-to-patient ratios vary by unit:
    • ICU: 1:1-2
    • Med/Surg & ED boarded Med/Surg: 1:5-6
    • PCU: 1:3-4
    • Behavioral Health (day): 1:5-6; (overnight): 1:10

Orientation & Training

  • Restraint C training during orientation.
  • MOAB 8-hour class during orientation.
  • Boundaries 1-hour module during orientation.
  • Training on restraint boards and lifts provided during onboarding.

Additional Information

  • Dress code: Navy blue scrubs.
  • Candidate should live within 50 miles of the location.
  • Majority of time expected in Med Surg and Behavioral Health units, but must be willing and able to float to ER and ICU as needed.

Prior Travel Experience

  • No explicit prior travel experience requirement stated.

This role is ideal for experienced RNs comfortable with multiple specialties and flexible floating assignments across critical and behavioral health care settings.
