Registered Nurse - Endoscopy Center
Location: Urbana, Illinois
Employment Type: Clinical Nursing
Shift: Day
Hours: 9 hours/day, 36 hours/week
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Provide professional nursing care to patients undergoing endoscopy procedures, including preparation, intra-procedure, and recovery phases for routine GI procedures such as colonoscopy and upper endoscopy. Deliver moderate sedation under physician direction and collaborate with unit staff to care for outpatient populations. Delegate tasks to unlicensed personnel as appropriate.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform nursing duties specific to endoscopy services within scope of practice.
- Complete initial patient assessments and develop individualized plans of care based on patient and family needs.
- Implement and modify nursing interventions and patient care procedures through continuous evaluation.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of nursing care for healthcare team use.
- Prepare patients for procedures, including health history review, IV insertion, and patient education.
- Monitor and sedate patients during procedures.
- Provide care during phase 1 and phase 2 recovery.
- Assist anesthesia providers during cases requiring anesthesia involvement.
- Promote patient and employee safety by identifying and addressing hazards and incidents.
- Communicate effectively with colleagues and provide constructive feedback to support professional development.
- Identify personal learning needs and pursue appropriate solutions.
- Fulfill all departmental competency requirements.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Illinois
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Minimum 3 years of endoscopy nursing experience
- Endoscopy experience within the last year
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification from the American Heart Association
Additional Information
- Moderate sedation experience required under physician supervision.
- Experience in endoscopy or GI procedural nursing preferred.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary outpatient setting.
