Nurse Manager, Emergency Department
Location: Brooklyn, New York
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Evening (3:00 PM – 11:00 PM)
Hours: 8 hours/day, 40 hours/week

Job Summary
- Full accountability for assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care in the Emergency Department (ED).
- Oversee and direct all nursing care and operations within the ED.
- Foster collaboration and respect among healthcare team members.
- Provide weekend and holiday coverage as needed.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Performance
- Develop long-term staffing schedules and ensure adequate daily coverage.
- Monitor unit performance metrics including agency/overtime costs, vacancy, and turnover rates.
- Oversee daily workflow, staffing, orientation, training, and development of ED staff.
- Lead quality and performance improvement initiatives.
- Promote a collaborative team approach for ED and trauma patient care.
- Monitor patient volume, quality of care, and staff performance to identify improvement areas.
- Maintain a departmental dashboard tracking people, service, quality, and leadership metrics.
- Investigate and resolve patient, physician, and staff complaints.
- Ensure all staff maintain required competencies.
Clinical Practice / Patient Care
- Collaborate with nursing leadership to establish and evaluate nursing care standards.
- Keep nursing staff informed of relevant protocols.
- Maintain a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment for patients, families, and staff.
- Ensure equal access to treatment regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, disability, age, or sexual orientation.
Management & Human Resources
- Participate in service planning and conduct monthly staff meetings.
- Educate, evaluate, counsel, discipline, and terminate staff as necessary in coordination with leadership and HR.
- Train staff on new and existing procedures and systems.
- Maintain an atmosphere of respect and courtesy toward patients and colleagues.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New York State.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in the Emergency Department, including experience within the last year.
- Experience in supervisory or management roles within the Emergency Department.
- Master of Science in Nursing (MSN).
- Current certifications in Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system.
Additional Information
- Exempt position with no overtime eligibility.
- Evening shift only.
- Prior travel experience is not specified or required.
