Registered Nurse – Medical-Surgical

Location: Medford, Wisconsin
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Start Date: ASAP
Shift: 12-hour variable shifts (example: 7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week

Unit and Work Environment

• 20-bed unit with typical census of 8-10 patients
• Shared ICU and Medical-Surgical unit (ICU has 3 beds)
• Nurse-to-patient ratio:

  • Days/Evenings: 1:4-5
  • Evenings/Nights: 1:6-7
• Critical access hospital with 25 beds
• Occasional float to other departments or nearby locations to assist with non-patient load tasks (e.g., vital checks)
• On-call during low census hours with call-back pay (minimum 2 hours)
• Scrubs: Any clean, work-appropriate scrubs allowed

Required Qualifications

• Wisconsin Registered Nurse (RN) license
• Certifications:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) from AHA or ARC
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
• Minimum 2 years of nursing experience
• Experience in Emergency Department (ED) or Intensive Care Unit (ICU) highly preferred
• Ability to read telemetry strips
• Charting experience preferred in Epic electronic health record system

Additional Information

• Contractors must live outside a 50-mile radius of the facility
• Weekend/Holiday schedule: Every other weekend and every other holiday
• During flu season, flu and COVID vaccinations are required; unvaccinated travelers must wear a mask at all times per facility policy
• Orientation week is exempt from General Services Administration (GSA) rules
• Contract includes eligibility for 36 hours of unbillable low census hours, which can include on-call hours
• Call-back pay applies if called back during on-call hours

This position offers a dynamic work environment in a critical access hospital with a focus on medical-surgical nursing and some ICU crossover. It is ideal for RNs with solid Med-Surg experience and comfort with telemetry monitoring.
