Job Opportunity: OR Tech First Assist (Surgical Services)

Job Description

• Position: OR Tech First Assist
• Shifts:

  • Option 1: Monday to Friday, 6:45 AM - 3:15 PM with flexible shift 10:45 AM - 7:15 PM
  • Option 2: 2 days 8-hour shifts (6:45 AM - 3:15 PM) & 2 days 12-hour shifts (6:45 AM - 7:15 PM)
• Call Requirements:

  • Up to 12 hours per week (Monday-Friday, 7 PM - 7 AM)
  • 12 hours weekend call (Friday-Sunday, 7 PM - 7 PM)
  • Every other holiday required

Experience Requirements

• Minimum 2 years of experience in Surgical Services
• First-time travelers accepted (no prior travel experience required)

Certifications & Licenses Required

• BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or ARC certified
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - review required
• Other certifications may be required based on unit description (e.g., PALS, NRP, TNCC, EFM)
• Valid State License required prior to start
• National Tech Certification verification as applicable (e.g., Sterile Processing Tech certification)

Background & Compliance Requirements

• Criminal Background Check within 90 days of start, covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years
• EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks prior to start and monthly thereafter
• Education verification of highest degree required by position
• Drug Screen within 90 days of start (excluding marijuana), updated annually
• Physical exam confirming ability to perform work without accommodations and free from communicable disease
• Immunizations and health documentation including:

  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray (updated annually)
  • Tdap vaccine within 10 years preferred
  • Documentation of MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) and Varicella immunity or vaccination
  • Hepatitis B titer, series, or signed declination
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season

Competency Requirements

• Medication/Pharmacology competency exam (must score 80% or higher) within 3 years of start
• Color Blind Testing (online or in-person)
• Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam for applicable specialties (RN only) with specific scoring requirements and remediation process

Additional Requirements

• Two positive supervisory references supporting at least 2 years of experience within the last 3 years
• Complete 7 years of work history with no gaps, including education, employment, licenses, and contact information
• Skills checklist required prior to start and updated annually
• Facility-specific orientation modules must be completed before hire date
• Photo for badge with specific requirements (clear, centered, no glare, solid background)

Notes

• Locals within 60 miles may be accepted at a different rate (not applicable here)
• Call is required as part of the job
• Prior travel experience is NOT required for this position

This position offers a structured schedule with call responsibilities and requires a solid background in surgical services with at least 2 years of experience. Compliance with health, background, and certification requirements is mandatory.
