Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (CVICU) - Travel/Contract
Location: Omaha, Nebraska
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit Description
- Cardiovascular ICU (CVICU) is a 20-bed, fast-paced specialty intensive care unit.
- Care for high acuity cardiovascular patients including stable heart and lung transplants, ventricular assist devices, and ECMO patients.
- Nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:2-3 during days and nights.
- Units may include multiple floors and Bellevue campus floating.
Work Schedule & Requirements
- 36 or 48-hour shift options available.
- Floating required frequently within scope to meet staffing needs.
- Weekend shifts: 4 out of 8 possible in a 4-week period (Days: Sat-Sun; Nights: Fri-Sat).
- Holiday requirement: Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays.
- RTO (Request Time Off) allowed up to 2 weeks, with manager discretion for additional requests.
- Locals not accepted (must live more than 100 miles from facility).
Required Qualifications
- License: Registered Nurse (RN) license for Nebraska (pending license accepted but must be in hand before start).
- Experience: Minimum 2 years of RN experience required, specifically in a large, urban hospital setting.
- Prior Travel Experience: First-time travelers NOT accepted unless they have 2 years of experience at a Level I Academic Medical Center.
- Certifications:
- BLS (Basic Life Support) required
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) preferred
- Skills:
- Experience with drips on all floors required
- EPIC charting experience required
- Other:
- Must be 100% nicotine free
- Scrubs: Steele gray scrubs with facility logo mandatory
Additional Information
- Care teams include CNAs, care techs, transport team, paramedics, and some LPNs.
- Facility is a teaching hospital with a focus on complex patient care and cutting-edge research.
- Parking permits available (~$55/month) or daily parking rates.
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID required.
- Background check within 30 days of start, including federal enhanced search.
- SAM and OIG checks required every 30 days.
- Education verification and primary source license verification required.
- Various health documents required including:
- Physical exam (within 1 year)
- Fit mask test (annual)
- Immunizations: Tdap, MMR, Hepatitis B, Varicella, Flu (preferred but not mandatory)
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray documentation
- Drug screen within 60 days of start and annually
- COVID vaccine preferred (medical/religious exemptions accepted)
- Annual skills checklist and references from work within past 2 years required.
- State-specific registry checks required within 30 days of start.
This position is ideal for experienced CVICU RNs comfortable with a fast-paced, high-acuity environment and flexible floating assignments.
