Job Opportunity: Operating Room Registered Nurse (RN)

Location: Charleston, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Details

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse (Operating Room)
  • Shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (6:30 AM - 7:00 PM) on Saturday, Sunday, and one weekday
  • Floating: May be required to float within scope to meet facility needs or between like units/sister facilities
  • Trauma Level: Level 1 trauma center
  • Facility Type: Level I Trauma Center, Teaching Facility, Magnet Hospital
  • Total Staffed Beds: 820
  • Charting System: EPIC
  • Scrub Color: Provided

Required Qualifications

  • License: South Carolina RN license or Multi-State/Compact RN license
  • Years of Experience: Minimum 2 years strongly preferred
  • Certifications:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or ARC only
    • Radiation Badge (provided by agency)
  • Experience: Scrub experience strongly preferred
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required; first-time travelers accepted

Additional Information

  • Guaranteed Hours: Facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks; called off hours can be combined to equal 1 shift
  • Local Candidates: Accepted on a case-by-case basis
  • Block Schedule: Possible with manager approval, dependent on unit needs
  • Hurricane Season: Travelers may be assigned to emergency response teams during June-November; peak months August and September

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Background Checks:
    • Annual background check covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
    • Includes SSN trace, statewide, national criminal, sex offender registry, FACIS 3, and international searches if applicable
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
  • Education Verification: Required; diploma or transcripts accepted as placeholder if verification pending
  • Licensure Verification: Primary source verification required; NURSYS verification for RNs
  • References: Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations
  • Employment History: Verification of last 3 clinical employers required
  • Competency Exams: Medication test/pharmacology and OR competency exam required
  • Color Blind Testing: Required prior to start
  • Fit Mask: N95 fit test within 90 days prior to start, renewed annually
  • Physical Exam: Initial physical exam attesting ability to meet job demands, updated annually
  • Drug Testing: 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start
  • Vaccinations & Health Requirements:
    • Tdap within 10 years or declination form
    • Negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold) within 90 days or proof of prior positive with chest x-ray
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella: Positive titer or vaccination series; boosters required for low titers
    • Hepatitis B: Titer, vaccine series, or declination required
    • Flu vaccine required during flu season (Aug 1 - Apr 30) or medical/religious exemption; declinations not accepted
    • COVID vaccines highly preferred; declination form required if not vaccinated
  • Radiation Badge: Required for OR RNs; must be obtained before starting floor work
  • Facility Orientation: Completion of online modules and first day instructions mandatory before orientation; failure to complete results in being sent home
  • Photo for Badge: Clear, passport-style photo with solid light background required before start
