Job Opportunity: Emergency Room Registered Nurse (ER RN) - Travel/Contract
Location: Newark, New York
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Shift: Nights, 4 shifts of 12 hours each (6:00 PM – 6:30 AM)
Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Work in a combined Adult/Pediatric Emergency Department.
- Manage dysrhythmias and patients with multisystem organ dysfunction/failure.
- Perform 12-lead EKGs, arterial line management, blood product administration, and central line care.
- Skilled in phlebotomy, IV starts, continuous IV sedation, emergency medications, IV vasopressors, and procedural sedation.
- Care for patients with stroke (CVA), orthopedic trauma, abdominal pain, asthma, and drug overdose.
- Identify and report abuse; manage mental/behavioral health conditions including acute psychosis, psychiatric holds, suicidal patients, and violent behavior.
- Perform chest tube insertion/management, CPAP/BiPAP, ABG interpretation, intubation, ventilator management, and isolation precautions.
- Triage patients effectively.
- Charting experience with EPIC system is required.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in New York
- Minimum of 1 year of Emergency Department (ED) experience
- Recent Emergency Department (ED) experience within the last year
- Current ACLS certification
- Current BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Current PALS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Experience with EPIC electronic health record system
Health and Compliance Requirements
Candidates must complete the following health-related requirements and lab work within 5 days of signing the contract:
- Physical exam (within 1 year, updated annually)
- Fit mask test (annual)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray (within 1 year)
- TB questionnaire (in lieu of annual TB test renewal)
- Immunizations or positive titers for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (surface antibody positive titer, completed series, or declination)
- Varicella
- Drug screening within 30 days of start (includes amphetamines, cocaine, fentanyl, heroin, opiates, etc.)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or signed declination (required during flu season)
- Snellen eye exam (within 1 year)
- COVID vaccination copy preferred but not required
Background and Verification Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID required.
- 7-year criminal background check (including felony checks) within 3 months of start.
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 3 months of start and updated monthly.
- Education verification from primary source required (transcripts/diplomas if no verification on file).
- NURSYS verification for RN license within 30 days of start.
- Employment history verification (at least 2 past employments).
- References required for travel agency compliance (2 references within 3 years).
- State-specific checks including sex offender registry and Medicaid exclusion list within 30 days of start and monthly thereafter.
Additional Information
- Orientation safety manual acknowledgement required.
- Medication/pharmacology competency exams as required.
- Color blindness testing required once.
- Photo for badge must be a clear, passport-style photo with a solid background.
- Candidates will receive facility-specific modules and onboarding instructions prior to start.
- Fingerprinting may be required for certain units (mental health, behavioral health, home health aide, long-term care) upon request.
Summary
This is a night shift travel contract position for an experienced Emergency Room Registered Nurse licensed in New York. The role requires strong clinical skills in adult and pediatric emergency care, certifications in ACLS, BLS, and PALS, and proficiency with EPIC charting. Candidates must meet comprehensive health, background, and compliance requirements and be prepared for a 13-week assignment with every other weekend work. First-time travelers are welcome, and local candidates must live more than 75 miles away.
