Job Opportunity: Oncology Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Oak Ridge, Tennessee
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Overview
- Full-time travel/contract Registered Nurse position specializing in Oncology with chemotherapy/infusion experience required.
- Shift: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM (no nights, weekends, holidays, or on-call).
- Float required among multiple infusion centers within East Tennessee.
- No holiday time off allowed during specified holiday periods; requests can be addressed onsite after assignment start.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Tennessee.
- Minimum of 1 year of Oncology experience, including experience within the last year.
- Chemotherapy and infusion experience required.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
- Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) or Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation (ONCC) chemotherapy certification.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Infusion experience required.
Certifications & Competencies
- BLS (Basic Life Support) – valid and uploaded, no expiration within 45 days of assignment start.
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) – actual certification required, no screenshots/photos.
- Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) or equivalent chemotherapy certification – current and valid.
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam – required.
- Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam – required within 12 months prior to start, minimum 80% score (not required for Mother-Baby or L&D units).
- Core Competency Exams (Parts I, II, III) – minimum 80% pass rate, updated annually.
- Color Blind Testing (Ishihara or online) – required within 12 months prior to start.
Experience
- Oncology nursing experience with chemotherapy/infusion required.
- Minimum years of specialty experience: Not explicitly stated, but oncology and chemo experience mandatory.
Background & Health Requirements
- Background check within 45 days of start, including 7-year SSN trace, national and state sex offender registries, criminal searches, and abuse registries. Alias name attestation required if applicable.
- Physical exam within 12 months prior to start, signed by MD, DO, NP, APRN, or PA confirming fitness for duty.
- Negative TB test (QGold or Skin Test) within 1 year; chest x-ray if prior positive.
- Drug screening within 45 days of start covering a comprehensive panel including amphetamines, benzodiazepines, fentanyl, opiates, and others.
- Immunizations/vaccinations required:
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) – 2 vaccines or positive titer.
- Hepatitis B – vaccine series, titer, or declination.
- Varicella – 2 vaccines or positive titer.
- Seasonal Flu Vaccine – required for all starts between September 1 and April 1; no declinations accepted (medical/religious exemptions require documentation).
- TB Questionnaire required.
Documentation & Onboarding
- Valid driver’s license or state ID (color copy, current).
- Photo for badge: passport style, solid background, no filters or facial piercings.
- Employment application with 7-year work history, no unexplained gaps over 30 days, and active nursing license details.
- Two supervisory references from employers within the last 3 years.
- Skills checklist specific to unit within the last year, updated annually.
- Background Check Alias Name Attestation if applicable.
- Onboarding attestation and review of onboarding documents required prior to start.
Additional Information
- Orientation offered bi-weekly.
- Candidates will have the opportunity to speak with the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) before accepting or starting the assignment.
- Local candidates (within 75 miles) have a different pay structure (not included here).
