ICU Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Metairie, Louisiana
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Overview

• Care for critically ill patients in ICU settings with a 1:2 patient ratio, occasionally flexing to 1:3.
• Required to float to all ICUs and may also float to Emergency Department (ED), Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU), and occasionally to Medical-Surgical/Progressive Care Units with 1:4 ratios.
• Perform lab sticks, EKGs, and line starts independently.
• Work includes care for isolation patients, including COVID-19 cases; knowledge of personal N95 mask size required.
• Weekend shifts required: 4 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule.
• No on-call required.

Requirements/Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Louisiana.
• Minimum 2 years of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) experience, with ICU experience within the last year.
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
• Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification.
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
• Experience with Epic electronic health record system.

Required Certifications

• Registered Nurse (RN) license valid in Louisiana.
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) – may be obtained onsite within 30 days of start (cost approx. $50-$100).
• NIH Stroke Certification
• Must be able to provide proof of certification compliance within 30 days of start.

Health & Compliance Requirements

• Up-to-date immunizations including:

  • Tdap (within 10 years)
  • 2 MMR vaccines or positive titers for Measles, Mumps, Rubella
  • 2 Varicella vaccines or positive titer
  • Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination within 12 months of start
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 3 months of start (two-step skin test or equivalent). Annual TB questionnaire required.
• Seasonal flu vaccination required during flu season (Oct 1 – Mar 31), with medical/religious exemptions accepted.
• Drug screening within 30 days of start (comprehensive panel including marijuana, cocaine, amphetamines, opiates, etc.).
• Physical exam within 12 months of start.

Background & Documentation

• Background check within 6 months covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years, including social security trace, sex offender, federal and nationwide checks.
• EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start.
• Government-issued photo ID required with name matching all documentation.
• Employment application must include 7 years of work history with no gaps over 30 days.

Additional Information

• Return to Office (RTO) limited to 5 days total.
• Medication, pharmacology, and dysrhythmia/EKG competency exams required annually with minimum passing score of 80%.
• Must adhere to employee appearance policy and facility-specific health and safety protocols.

This position is ideal for experienced ICU Registered Nurses comfortable with advanced cardiac and renal support devices, flexible with floating assignments, and able to work night shifts with weekend coverage.
