Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical / Inpatient Rehab
Location: Roanoke, Virginia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Shift: Nights, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
- Weekend Requirement: May be every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts within a 6-week block
- Holiday Requirement: Must work one holiday during the 13-week contract
- Patient Unit: 33-bed adult Med Surg unit (no telemetry)
- Patient Diagnoses: Stroke (SCVA), spinal cord injury (SCI), traumatic brain injury (TBI), amputee, multi-trauma
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: Typically 1:6, may flex up to 1:7
- Floating: Nurses may be required to float to nearby Med Surg units if needed
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Virginia
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Minimum of 1 year of Medical Surgical nursing experience, with experience within the last year
- Experience in a Rehabilitation setting
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Skilled in non-invasive airway management
Additional Requirements & Information
- First-Time Travelers: Accepted
- Radius Rule: No local candidates accepted based on radius criteria
- Background Checks: 7-year background check required within 1 year of start, including education verification and various federal/state screenings
- Health Documents:
- Physical exam within 1 year confirming freedom from communicable diseases
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year, updated annually
- Fit test for masks within 1 year, updated annually (onsite fit testing possible)
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
- Required immunizations or positive titers for measles, mumps, rubella, hepatitis B, varicella
- Flu vaccination or mask and declination form during flu season
- Documentation:
- Valid driver’s license/state ID with address more than 100 miles from facility required within 48 hours of signing
- Photo for badge (professional, plain background)
- Completion of new hire paperwork and compliance documents prior to start
- References: Two clinical references required (hospital evaluations accepted)
- Employment Application: Complete application or resume required
- Competency Exams: Medication/pharmacology and other competency exams as applicable, updated annually
- Orientation: Review of contract staff orientation manual recommended (not required for inpatient RNs)
Scheduling & Policies
- All scheduling requests (RTO, block, special) must be submitted with application
- Facility may call off one shift every two weeks
- Must comply with facility’s call-off and attendance policies
