Registered Nurse - Emergency Department (Travel/Contract)

Location: Albuquerque, New Mexico

Job Overview

  • Assignment primarily involves care of admitted patients in the Emergency Department (ED).
  • Approximately 60%-80% of the ED patients are admitted; many rooms function as ED Holding.
  • Level 1 trauma experience preferred.
  • Shifts: 36 or 48 hours.
  • Patient ratio: 1 nurse to 5 patients.
  • Floating: May float to Pediatric ED (optional), Adult PCUs (expected), ED Holding, and Trauma Department of Emergency (DOE) as needed.
  • Weekend work required as needed (weekend days = Sat/Sun; weekend nights = Fri/Sat/Sun).
  • No local candidates accepted within 100 miles radius.
  • COVID-19 vaccination required; religious and medical exemptions accepted with proper documentation.

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in New Mexico.
  • Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department (ED) experience, including at least 1.5 years of ED experience within the last year.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
  • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) certification.
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
  • Relias Basic Dysrhythmia Exam completion.
  • Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement.
  • Acknowledgement of Pass/Fail Testing.

Work Environment

  • Level I Trauma Center, Children's Hospital, Teaching Hospital, Short-term Acute Care.
  • Total staffed beds: 554.
  • Charting system: Cerner.
  • Parking: No fee.
  • Scrub color: Black (not provided).

Overtime and Scheduling

  • Overtime applies after 48 hours per week for contracts signed on or after 10/30/2025.
  • New contracts and extensions must be at least 10 weeks.
  • A 6-month break is required after 4 consecutive assignments or 1 year of work, whichever comes first.
  • Return-to-Office (RTO) restrictions: absences greater than 7 days require approval.
  • Guaranteed contracted hours per week (36/40/48), with facility allowed to call off up to 3 times during a 13-week assignment.

Notes

  • No on-call required.
  • Block scheduling not accommodated.
  • Increased number of admit holds currently seen in ED.

This position is ideal for experienced Emergency Department Registered Nurses with trauma experience seeking a travel contract in New Mexico. Prior travel experience is preferred but not mandatory if the candidate meets experience requirements.
