ICU Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position
Location: Columbus, Ohio
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
- Critical Care Float Pool RN working primarily night shifts (3 shifts of 12 hours each, 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM)
- Float to various ICUs based on staffing and patient acuity, including:
- Neuro ICU
- Surgical ICUs
- Medical ICUs (MICU x2)
- Cardiology/Diagnostics
- CVICU
- SICU / MICU / NCCU
- Float policy requires floating within units of equivalent or lower acuity
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Ohio
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Minimum 2 years of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) experience, including experience within the last year
- Certifications:
- BLS issued by American Heart Association
- ACLS issued by American Heart Association
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification
- Experience with ventilator management
- Proficiency with Epic electronic health record system
Shift Details
- Night shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (total 36 hours/week)
Required Background and Compliance
- 7-year criminal background check including FBI and BCI fingerprinting (Ohio-specific code 3701.881) required prior to start
- Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG monitoring
- Education verification from an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA) required
- Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug test within 3 months of start (includes amphetamines, benzodiazepines, THC, cocaine, opiates, etc.)
- Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and freedom from contagious disease
- Immunizations and health requirements:
- Tdap vaccine (adult dose after age 11/12)
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year
- TB questionnaire annually
- 2 MMR vaccines or positive titers for measles, mumps, and rubella
- Hepatitis B titer or 3-vaccine series (declination acceptable)
- 2 Varicella vaccines or positive titer (medical exemptions require documentation)
- Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season (10/1 - 3/31) with mask requirement if declined
- COVID-19 vaccination not required but strongly recommended
Competency and Testing Requirements
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam prior to start
- Unit-specific competency exams
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required within 1 year of start and updated annually (minimum passing score 76%)
- Orientation Safety Manual acknowledgment annually
Documentation and Other Requirements
- Two professional references required (at least one from a manager or formal leadership)
- Employment application including education verification
- Skills checklist required
- Background check and fingerprinting results must be clear before assignment start
- Various facility-specific compliance forms and policies must be reviewed and signed prior to start
Additional Notes
- Parking options available with varying costs and shuttle services (not detailed here)
- Facility allows renewal of BLS and ACLS certifications onsite
- NIH Stroke certification must be obtained within 1 year of start and renewed every 2 years for certain units
