Neuro ICU Travel Nurse Opportunity - Phoenix, Arizona

Specialty

  • Neuro ICU Nurse
  • Required Specialty Experience: 2 years ICU experience in a large hospital (450+ beds)
  • Required Trauma Experience: Level 1 Trauma experience required
  • Prior Travel Experience: 3-6 months travel experience required

Contract Length

  • Minimum contract length: 13 weeks

Unit Details

  • Unit: Neuro ICU
  • Unit Size: 32 beds
  • Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:2
  • Charge Nurse: Yes (does not take patients)
  • Shifts: 12-hour shifts (7am-7pm or 7pm-7am)
  • Floating: Required to float between all ICU floors and Telemetry units; Telemetry patient load 4:1 when floated
  • Orientation: 2 shifts on the floor
  • Holidays: Work into core staff rotation; approximately 4 weekend shifts per 4 weeks
  • Telemetry: Phillips monitors
  • Ventilators: Yes
  • Respiratory Therapy: Available 24/7
  • Pharmacy: Available 24/7

Patient Population and Care

  • Patients: Critical care patients with neurological diagnoses
  • Procedures: Craniotomies, brain tumor removal and ablations, brain biopsies, complicated spine surgeries, scoliosis repair
  • Skills: Strong neuro assessment skills and ICP (intracranial pressure) monitoring experience required

Certifications and Exams

  • Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS
  • Prophecy Dysrhythmia Exam: Required 24-48 hours prior to acceptance; maximum 2 attempts allowed; failure results in 6-month disqualification within the region
  • Day 1 Pass/Fail Exam during orientation (study guide provided)
  • SIMs Lab: Pass/fail skills lab on Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes (neuro ICU only requires Foley insertion); sterile field competency required

Additional Requirements and Notes

  • EMR: Cerner experience required
  • Must have own vehicle (travel teams)
  • No facial piercings and only natural hair colors allowed
  • Men must be clean-shaven for fit testing
  • Candidates cannot work two contracts simultaneously within this system
  • Must have been off permanent staff in the system for 12 months to be eligible for travel assignment
  • Teaching hospital: Nurses may have nursing students assigned
  • Must be able to float to Medical-Surgical Telemetry floors
  • Parking: Assigned parking with shuttle to facility; night shift parking in garage

This position is ideal for experienced Neuro ICU nurses with strong critical care and trauma backgrounds, prior travel experience, and the ability to meet strict certification and exam requirements.
