MedSurg/Tele 4th Floor - Prescott, Arizona

Unit Information

  • Unit: Telemetry - WC-Surgical/Neuro 4th Floor
  • Beds: 48 (two units: 4A and 4B)
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:5
  • Nurse Aide ratio: 1:10-15
  • Charge Nurse: Yes (does not take patient assignments)
  • Telemetry monitored remotely; Tele techs on 3rd floor
  • Monitor techs read and post strips; RNs interpret and sign strips at least once per shift

Patient Population

  • Common diagnoses: COVID, respiratory issues, GI, diabetes, TIA, CVA
  • Surgical patients: general, orthopedic, spinal
  • Experience with reading basic telemetry strips required
  • Some experience with general and orthopedic surgical patients, CVA, and TIA preferred

Certifications & Skills

  • Required: BLS, ACLS
  • Cerner experience recommended (only one day of orientation)
  • RNs are not required to titrate drips
  • Common drips: Diltiazem at a set rate

Equipment & Treatments

  • Respiratory equipment: BiPAP, CPAP, high flow oxygen, some breathing treatments

Scheduling & Shifts

  • Shift length: 12 hours (7:00 AM - 7:30 PM) with 30-minute unpaid lunch
  • Scheduling: 4-week schedules, self-scheduling used but finalized by manager
  • Weekend requirement: 2 weekends per 4-week schedule
  • Holiday requirement: Work 2 days and 1 evening or 2 evenings and 1 day during Christmas, New Year’s, and Thanksgiving holidays
  • Call/standby: None
  • Floating: Yes, may float to East Campus and possibly PCU if qualified

Orientation & Dress Code

  • Orientation: 1 shift of unit/department-specific orientation
  • Dress code: Navy blue scrubs

Contract Length

  • 13 weeks
