Overview

Required Qualifications

• Active IL license or confirmation that the application process has been initiated
• BLS
• Last four digits of SSN
• Clinician’s middle initial
• Requested time off
• Must be able to produce a negative drug screen for all panels

Unit Details

• 63 beds total: 49 private and 9 observation beds
• Nurse-to-patient ratios: 4–5 on days, 5–6 on nights; may increase to 1:6 on days and 1:7 on nights if needed
• Common patient types include post-op surgical, trauma, overflow medical, dressing changes, wound care, IV therapy, pain management, drains, NGs, central lines, and TPN
• No vents on the unit; CPAP and high flow are used
• Some patients are on telemetry; bedside RNs do not read strips

Responsibilities

• Post-op care
• Use critical thinking and ask for help when needed
• Provide good bedside manner and work as a team player
• Manage inhalers and place patients on CPAP when needed

Scheduling and Staffing

• Every other weekend required
• Rotate every other holiday
• Travelers do not self-schedule
• Travelers are first to float and float to units with the same level of experience
• If an ICU RN floats to a general unit, they take a team of 3 patients

Orientation

• 2 shifts with a preceptor
• One additional 12-hour shift for EPIC and professional orientation with the unit educator

Additional Notes

• Local placements within a 50-mile radius are accepted
• Local clinicians receive a reduced bill rate
• Charge nurses do not take an assignment
• House supervisor is available 24/7
• No call or standby requirement
• Any scrub color is allowed
