Registered Nurse (RN) – Oncology Acute Telemetry

Location: Phoenix, Arizona
Unit: Oncology Acute Telemetry, Tower 6
Unit Size: 32 beds
Shift: Days (12-hour shifts, 7am–7pm)
Hours per Week: 36
Patient Ratio: 1:4
Weekend Requirement: At least 1 weekend per month
Holiday Requirement: Rotational coverage

Job Description

• Care for primarily oncology patients (85%) and telemetry medical-surgical patients (15%)
• Float to other MedSurg/Telemetry units as needed
• Light charge nurse responsibilities with patient assignments; serve as oncology resource RN
• Work in a teaching hospital environment; nursing students may be present
• Use Cerner EMR system
• Interpret EKGs using Phillips telemetry system
• Manage patients on Bipap and Cpap ventilators
• Collaborate with 24/7 Respiratory Therapy and Pharmacy teams
• IV team (SWAT RN) available for difficult IV sticks
• Floor-specific orientation: 2 days

Required Qualifications

• Active RN license in the state of Arizona
• Minimum 2 years of core nursing experience in the specialty (Oncology and Telemetry)
• Level 1 Trauma and teaching hospital experience required
• BLS and ACLS certifications required
• Chemotherapy certification is a plus
• Cerner EMR experience required
• Prophecy Dysrhythmia Exam required 24-48 hours prior to acceptance (max 2 attempts; failure results in 6-month disqualification in region)
• Must pass a Day 1 pass/fail exam during orientation
• Competency in Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes (SIMs Lab pass/fail required)
• Must have natural hair color and no facial piercings
• Male candidates must be clean-shaven for fit testing
• Must have own vehicle (travel teams only)
• Candidates must not hold concurrent contracts with other employers in the region
• Must have been off permanent staff in the region for at least 12 months to qualify for travel assignment

Contract Details

• Minimum contract length: 13 weeks
• Weekly orientations held on Mondays (except holiday weeks)

• Parking assigned with shuttle service to facility; night shift parking in garage
• Facility is a 607-bed tertiary care center with lung, liver, and kidney transplant specialties
• Associated with a nationally recognized neuro institute
• Candidates must include unit size, hospital size, trauma level, and EMR experience in their profiles
• Study guide provided for Day 1 exam
• Nurses expected to maintain sterile field during procedures; failure in SIMs Lab may result in termination
• Scrub color: Navy
• No hospitalist or intensivist in-house coverage
