Registered Nurse - MICU (Travel/Contract)

Location: New Orleans, Louisiana
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Day (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each; 6:45 AM – 7:15 PM)
Hours per Week: 36


Job Description

  • Work in a high acuity Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) with COVID care and pronation therapy.
  • Responsibilities include pronation therapy and vasopressor titrations.
  • Experience with Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT) dialysis required.
  • May be assigned to an Emergency Team during emergency events, requiring staying onsite until the event passes or serving as relief staff.
  • Float requirement within the facility.
  • Epic electronic health record experience is required.

Required Certifications

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – AHA or RQI accepted; renewal required if expiring within 30 days of start.
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA or RQI accepted; renewal required if expiring within 30 days of start.

Preferred Certifications (Not Required)

  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute)
  • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)

Required Licenses and Credentials

  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license for Louisiana or Compact RN license effective immediately upon submission.
  • License verification must be completed within 30 days of start. Renewal must be completed prior to start if expiring within 30 days.

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Louisiana.
  • Minimum of 1 year of recent experience in a Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU).
  • Experience with Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT).
  • Current ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association.
  • Current BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
  • Experience using Epic electronic health record system.

Health and Compliance Requirements

  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 60 days of start; must be initiated within 24-48 hours of offer acceptance.
  • Physical exam within 12 months indicating good physical health.
  • Fit mask testing (N95) within one year of start; onsite fit testing available if needed.
  • Immunizations or proof of immunity required for:
    • Measles (Rubeola)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B
    • Varicella
  • Tdap vaccine required only for select departments (not specified for MICU).
  • Negative TB test (PPD, Qgold, or Tspot) within 12 months; if positive, additional documentation required.
  • Seasonal flu vaccination, declination, or medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Oct 1 – Mar 31).

Background and Documentation Requirements

  • 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, updated annually.
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated monthly.
  • Sex offender search required within 30 days of start and updated monthly.
  • Education verification of highest degree completed.
  • Current/valid driver’s license or government photo ID (color copy).
  • Resume/application and skills checklist updated annually.
  • Photo for badge: full color, passport-style, taken within last 6 months.

Additional Notes

  • No block scheduling requests allowed.
  • Candidates must be comfortable with emergency team assignments and potential extended shifts during emergency events.
  • CPI certification is not required for ICU specialties.
  • Epic experience is mandatory.

This position is suited for experienced critical care RNs comfortable with high acuity patients, emergency response duties, and working in a fast-paced MICU environment with advanced procedures and equipment.

Staff are very nice and I have been given very reasonable assignments for the most part. Management and providers are very approachable and always willing to help!

Floated about every other shift but people have been super accommodating and kind!
