Radiation Oncology Medical Physicist - Locum Tenens
Location: San Francisco, California
Employment Type: Locum Tenens (W2)
Shift: Day shift, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM (5 days/week, 8 hours/day, 40 hours/week)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- No privileging needed; can start ASAP within 3 weeks.
- Work schedule: 8-hour day shifts.
- Clinical radiation oncology role involving:
- Machine troubleshooting and clinical presence for linac-based radiation therapy patients.
- Weekly and final chart checks, plan checks for external beam plans.
- Linac quality assurance (QA) and collaboration with service engineers on machine issues.
- Experience with a patient mix including in-patient palliative care.
Required Qualifications
- American Board of Radiology (ABR) certification in diagnostic or therapeutic medical physics (PhD and ABR certification required).
- Eligible to be authorized as a Calibration Physicist with the State of California.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in a clinical radiation oncology department.
- Master’s degree in an applied science or medical physics training in a radiation oncology program.
- Experience with:
- Truebeam linear accelerators
- RayStation treatment planning system
- Aria Oncology Information System
- MIM software
- Strong communication skills and clinical practice experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Elekta Versa linear accelerator machines.
- ACRT accreditation experience.
Required Documentation and Compliance
- Social Security Card (full number required, hard copy not required).
- Valid Driver’s License or State ID (clear, color copy of front).
- Facility-specific application and credentialing documents, including:
- Verification of education, work history, hospital affiliations (10 years), and references (3 peer references within 12 months).
- Current and past malpractice coverage certificates of insurance (COI).
- Case logs for recent graduates (last 24 months).
- Curriculum Vitae (CV) and photo.
- Explanation documentation for any employment gaps over 30 days.
- Temporary and permanent privileges processes apply.
- Annual and initial health requirements including:
- Tuberculosis screening and testing (two tests during initial privileging).
- Seasonal flu vaccination or facility-specific declination.
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) positive titers or vaccination proof.
- Varicella positive titer or vaccination proof.
- Hepatitis B vaccination series, positive titer, or declination form.
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccination or declination documentation.
- COVID-19 vaccination series and boosters or facility-specific declination.
- Drug testing (9 panel within 30 days of start, initial privileging only).
- Physical exam within 12 months of start (initial privileging only).
- Respirator fit test within 12 months of start (initial privileging only).
- Required cybersecurity and HIPAA training and annual quizzes with passing scores.
Additional Notes
- DEA license hard copy required unless otherwise approved.
- All required documents must be submitted promptly, including completion of facility applications within 48 hours of contract signing.
- Temporary privileges may be granted for clean files with no malpractice issues; permanent privileges follow committee approval.
